To the family of Sgt. Garrick L. Eppinger:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/286-7296) or email the office ([email protected]) and leave your name and contact information.
Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 25 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 26 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Eppinger Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Dear Family, I believe it was June that I saw Garrick's picture on the front page of The Post Crescent kissing his baby girl good bye. I thought "oh how sad, another soldier having to say goodbye to his little child". Last week when I came home from work and the paper was lying on the table, and I saw the same picture from June on the front cover of the paper, I yelled out loud, NO!!!!! I was so angry and sad that another soldier had lost his/her life from the war. My heart aches for all of you. The obituary tells us Garrick loved God and his family. He was a great person! It's a tragedy for all of us to keep losing these wonderful men and women. Please know you and your family will be in my prayers for healing for a very long time. May you find peace in your hearts knowing Garrick made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. May God and those you love give you comfort in this very difficult time. Marilyn Bohman Brillion, Wi.

I have had the privilege of knowing Garrick Louis Eppinger, AKA Ricky, since he was a pre-teen doing fund raisers and charity events with his parents Linda and Garrick, Sr. He was a bright, enthusiastic child who grew up into an honorable adult. He considered his function in this life to serve his neighborhood, state, and country. We are so blessed with the richness of his honor and the knowledge that he is in Gods house. We, a grateful family, thank Garrick for his service and sacrifice.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to SGT Garrick Louis Eppinger, Jr. our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Garrick. And to Garrick it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Garrick, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,307 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Garrick’s family and loved ones.

My deepest sympathies go out to Garricks family. Although I knew him very little, I could tell that he was a warm, sincere, friendly person. He was very proud to be an American soldier. May his family take comfort in knowing that they now have a guardian angel watching over them at all times. So sorry.

Garrick made an impact in the lives of so many. I was priveleged to know Garrick as a young teen in our youth group at church. To see him grow and mature into a caring and compassionate young man was great to witness as one of his youth leaders and friends. Garrick was a true friend to everyone he knew, he was a special young man who will be missed by all who knew him.
Garrick Sr., Linda and loved ones, please accept my heartfelt prayers and condolences.
In the love of Christ,
