Gerald John Voster

Appleton - Jerry, 77, of Appleton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at St. Paul Elder Services after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. He was born on November 15, 1940 to the late Louis and Josephine (Thein) Voster. Jerry served in the Marine Corps from 1959-1963. He worked as a union electrician in the IBEW Local 577 and earned his 50-year Electrician Certificate.

Jerry loved music and had a beautiful bass voice. He used his talent to share his faith and bring comfort to so many over the years. He was a proud member of the MacDowell Male Chorus for 28 years. During this time, he donned his tux and sang with his fellow MacDowell brothers for countless concerts and performances. He was a volunteer member of the St. Joseph Church Choir for over 20 years. He also sang with the Appleton Area Funeral Choir, the Sacred Heart Men's Choir, and the St. Peter & Paul Church Choir. Jerry loved being outdoors and was an avid fisherman, especially at relatives' cottages and during his yearly trek to Canada with his family. He could solve any problem and was often found in the garage fixing things or outside gardening. His sense of humor was infectious and he loved to tell 'Dad' jokes. He also liked to travel and took his wife and family on many trips.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 27 years: Dorothy (Schuh) Appleton-Voster; his children: Jim (Sheila) Voster, Kurt (Theresa) Voster, Becky Voster, Christopher Voster and Steve (Jamie) Voster; stepchildren: James (Aminah Perkins) Appleton, Jolene (Dave) Hemp, Ken Appleton, Kristine (Nick) Nicolini and Mike (Anna Korpi) Appleton; grandchildren: Leah, Jerod, T.J. and Anna Voster; step-grandchildren: Bakari Hayes, James Barack Appleton, Alli Hemp, Kiera and Noah Nicolini; brother: Mike (Mary) Voster; sister: Linda (Jim) Warning; brothers-in-law: Curt French, John (Lynn) Schuh, Pete (Deb) Schuh, Paul (Julie) Schuh, Ed (Mary) Schuh and Joe (Jane) Schuh; sisters-in-law: Linda Voster, Ginny (Bill) Huisman and Mary (Tom) Wydeven and mother-in-law Ann Schuh. Jerry is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; infant daughter: Theresa Voster; sister: Patricia French; brother: David Voster and father-in-law: Ken Schuh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 AM, next Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W Lawrence St. in Appleton with Fr. Jim Leary OFM Cap and Monsignor John Schuh concelebrating. Visitation will be held at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel on Friday, November 9 from 5 - 7 PM with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. Family and friends may also visit with the family preceding the mass on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9 - 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's name can be made to MacDowell Male Chorus, St. Paul Elder Services, or the Fox Valley Memory Project.
