Margaret Schroeder Obituary

Margaret Schroeder

Appleton - Margaret M. Schroeder, age 69, passed away on May 30, 2021 surrounded by her family. Meg was born on January 8, 1952 to Harold and Bernette (Spoerl) Hurley. She grew up in the Appleton area, attending St. Joseph's School and graduating from Xavier High School in 1970. Her catholic faith became an integral part of who she was at an early age and was strengthened throughout her life. After graduating from high school, she went to work for CAC and as a teacher's aide at Holy Angels School in Darboy. Meg then developed a passion for retail and shopping while working for Gimbels. She married her high school sweetheart, John, in 1974. Together they shared three children, nine dogs, four cats and too many other pets to list. Their life together was fulfilling and full of love and happiness, all the way until the end.

Meg was always up for a good time. If one of her favorite songs came on, she wouldn't hesitate to take over the lead vocals and sometimes even play her trusty air guitar. She enjoyed a good practical joke, and her sense of humor was always present. She was passionate, caring, loyal and faith-filled. The perfect wife and mother. She was eternally dedicated to her family. Whether that meant sacrificing her time for the family business or spending summer weekends on Moshawquit Lake, she was most happy when everyone was together. Meg enjoyed the process of both planning and throwing a party. She was a great host and an exceptional cook. She looked forward to every holiday and loved decorating her house accordingly, especially at Christmas time. Her loyalty to Brett Favre knew no bounds. She loved to travel, catch up with her friends and spent countless hours on the phone checking in on her loved ones.

Meg is survived by her beloved husband John, children Katherine, Michael (Holly) and Elizabeth (Roel) Stouten. Grandchildren Jack and Isla Schroeder. Siblings Timothy (Connie) Hurley, Colleen Schneider and Maureen (Stephen) Krueger. And many relatives and friends. She valued the relationships in her life and was appreciative of the support she received from her friends and family. While her health deteriorated, she was steadfast in her faith and continued to fight for more time with her family. The time they had together will be forever cherished and recalled fondly. She will be missed by her friends and family but the legacy left will always be treasured.

Preceded in death by her parents and sisters Diane Christison and Christine Hurley.

The family would like to thank all of the nurses at Fresenius Medical Care in Appleton for the exceptional care that they provided over the last 5+ years.

The funeral liturgy will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence Street, on Tuesday June 8th at 10:30 AM with Father Jim Leary presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 8:30 AM until the time of the service.

Meg was the sweetest, so considerate at the Hurley Family reunions to me, an outsider. She seemed to always have kind words for everyone and always remember her beautiful smile.

So very saddened to read that Meg has passed away. We initially met while working together years ago at Gimbels. Over the years since our Gimbel days, we would run into each other now and then and she always greeted me by name with her infectious smile and laugh. Ran into her a few years ago during her illness and even then she remained positive. She will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to John and family.
