Richard Guenther Obituary

Richard Conway Guenther, 71, a new resident of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at University of Colorado Memorial Hospital.

Rick was born on April 21, 1945, in Sheboygan, son of Gilbert and Carol (Stahl) Guenther. After graduating from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1963, he entered the US Air Force with his good friend, Merlin (Ike) Eisenhardt. While stationed in Seoul, Korea he met his wife, Sunday Ko Ho Sak, of South Korea. They were married at the US Embassy in Seoul on October 2, 1967, with his long-time friend, Jim Mitchell as best man.

Rick received his Bachelor's and Master's degree while in the Air Force. He retired with the rank of Captain after serving in the Air Force for 20 years. He and his family were stationed throughout the United States. Rick was a good Christian man and enjoyed his Bible study group in Appleton. He loved sports of all kinds and politics.

Rick is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sunday; his two sons, Matt (Mary) Guenther of Colorado Springs and Ric Guenther of Appleton; two grandsons, Devin and Cameron; one sister, Gay Wynveen of Random Lake; and one brother, Tim Guenther of Sheboygan.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Allan Wynveen.

A memorial service to celebrate Rick's life will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Appleton Zion UMC, 1700 Pogrant Road, in Appleton, with Rev. Min Hyuk Woo officiating. Burial will take place at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may gather at the church on Thursday from 5:00 pm until the time of the service at 6:00 pm.

Wish we could have known him. He and John were both in the service and in Korea. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

oh, Gay, I am so sorry for another loss in your life. Although I haven't seen rick for over 50 years, I would have recognized him anywhere.
I, too, remember playing up at your house and eating buttered toast and going to the 5 woods behind the cementery - such fun.
I will keep you and yours in my thoughts. Mickey Meerdink

Guenther family, thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this grieving time. Remember Rick playing baseball in the Gatzke field with the Bergers as we were growing up in the old neighborhood.......good times. Remember all the happy memories. Keep them close to your heart and they will get you though the days ahead. RIP Rick
