Brother, I just ran into Garay at the px, just got back from a month in the field & he told me we lost you. I know we planned on linking up in June to go camping. I'm sorry I failed the rendezvous. You were, are, & will always be a shining light. I love you Brother & my prayers go out to your family. I know Heaven is enriched & that you are at peace. I really miss you bro. See you on that day, God bless you & your family & pray for me while you're up there Ricky. God keep you. Rangers Lead the Way!!!

I was stunned when I heard about the passing of Ricky Rosengrant. You see, I was his recruiter. I remember the day that I was standing behind my table set up at Hanover Area High School talking to a bunch of rowdy 9th and 10th graders when this kid walks up. There was something in his eyes that any recruiter worth his salt would recognize as smart, determined and capable. I asked him, "have you eveer thought about joining the Army?" (standard line....I was still wet behind the ears as a recruiter). He told me, "Oh...I'm joining the Army! I want to be a Ranger." This was the first time that I had ever heard this spoken with such conviction. He was just a Junior then so not able to enlist Active Army. I remember going out to meet with his Mother Helen when the PA National Guard was trying to get him to enlist as a Junior. I explained the fact that if he wanted Airborne in his contract, he would have to wait for the Active Army. He waited. That was over 12 years ago now and I have reached the end of my career. Saddened does not reach the depth of how hard this hit me. Let me tell you something about recruiters...we consider our enlistees OUR TROOPERS! The loss of this Trooper hurt me to my core. Someday, SGT Rosengrant, I will heft a pint with you on Fiddler's Green. We shall all miss you Hero.

To the Rosengrant Family:
Please accept my sincerest and deepest sympathies for your loss of your son. Although I did not know Richard, I felt it is my duty, on behalf of a grateful nation, to thank him for his service to his country. Most people don't realize, we civilians ARE his country, and therefore have the duty & the responsibility of thanking ALL service members, especially those who are on the front lines for allowing us to go about our everyday lives in the safety and security they provide us. Rest easy in the Arms of the Angels Richard, for you have truly earned it and again thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your service to us......your country.
