Ronald Metz Obituary

Ronald "Ron" L. Metz

Oshkosh - Ronald "Ron" Lee Metz, of Oshkosh, passed away suddenly at his home on May 17, 2021, at the age of 88. Ron was born in Oshkosh to the late Rudolph and Gwendolyn Metz on August 13, 1932. Ron was extremely proud to have served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953 during the Korean War. On September 4, 1954, he married the love of his life, Rose Jungwirth, and they were devoted to each other during their 66 years of marriage. Together they enjoyed traveling, volunteering in their community, appreciating nature and spending time with their fun-loving family.

Ron earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and was employed for 33 years at the Wisconsin Department of Revenue as an auditor. He was very committed to Oshkosh, and served in many community organizations over the years, including: United Way, Boy Scouts (Silver Beaver), The Miss Wisconsin Pageant, Oshkosh Giants Baseball, The Snitz Club, City Landmarks Commission, Tyriver Scholarship Foundation, Winnebago County Historical Society, Oshkosh Memorabilia Club, Warbirds of America, Oshkosh Public Museum Board, Celebration of Lights, SCORE, The Ron Metz Centennial Fund at the Community Foundation, and most recently The Military Veterans Museum of Oshkosh.

Ron enjoyed spending time with many friends, including his coffee group and the ROMEO's. He was a life-long lover and collector of all things Oshkosh. He was passionate about his role as armchair coach for the Green Bay Packers, and was an avid fan of local sports teams.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Rose; his children: Kim (Bruce Pannkuk) Metz, Scott (Marie) Metz, Sandi (Steve) Halron, and Becky Metz; his much-loved grandchildren: Justin (Senta) Metz, Benjamin Noffke, Jason (Aimee) Metz, Natalie Noffke, Jeremy (fiancée: Brittany Derouin) Metz; great-grandchildren Elijah, Shirley, Michael Ron, August and Judy; his brother, Tom Metz; his sister-in-law, Violet Metz.

Ron was preceded in death by his brother, James Metz, and his sister-in-law, Sharon Metz.

A visitation for Ron will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 23rd, 2021 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Eastside, 402 Waugoo Ave., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm, with Military Honors to follow.

The family would like to thank emergency and Evergreen personnel for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Military Veterans Museum of Oshkosh.

So sorry for your loss, Mrs. Metz and family. Ron was one of the good guys. Always enjoyed seeing you both at different events (even though Ron would always give me a hard time!). Will continue to think of him (and smile) whenever I attend a Snitz Club fish fry.

With sympathy,
Craig Whitney

Dear Rose and Family: So sorry to hear of Ron's passing. Jim and I are thinking and praying for your family. We remember Ron's smile and his kindness He was always willing to take us back to our trailers, in the golf cart, after a long day working in the gift shop during the airshow.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Metz, her children and the entire extended Metz family upon hearing the news of Ron's passing. I hold fond memories of gatherings at Ron's and Rose's home over numerous years during the Miss Wis Pageant. I always enjoyed our spirited discussions, and thought highly of his dedication to his family, country and local events. He will be missed!
