Sarah Volz

New London - Sarah L. Volz, age 98, New London passed away on February 3, 2018. She was born on September 17, 1919 at home on the family farm in the Town of Helvetia, Waupaca County. She was the youngest and last surviving child of the late Edward and Emilia (Besler) Rohde. Sarah was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Marks Lutheran Church, Symco. She graduated from Iola High School in 1937. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London. On July 10, 1948, she was married to Herbie R. Volz; he preceded her in death in 1982. Sarah worked in the office at Hamilton & Sons Canning Company, the Weber Clinic and Curwood, Inc.; retiring in 1984. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, dancing, bus tours, going out to eat and visiting with family and friends.

Sarah is survived by her nieces: Patricia (Dean) Zander; Manawa, Carol (Craig) Jannusch; Crossville TN; Shirley (Ned) Clesceri, Des Plaines, IL; nephews: Ralph Jensen, Ogdensburg; and William (Judy) Rohde, New Brighton, MN. She is further survived by other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including special friends, Sarah and Bill Steinke and family of Fall Creek, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers: Fred, Elmer, Carl and Alvin and three sisters, Ottelia Rineck, Ella Rohde and Ida Jensen.

Funeral services for Sarah will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London with Rev. Marcus Schulz officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Symco.
