I am so very shocked and sorry to hear this!! My deepest sympathies to your family. He was on the union negotiations team with me at NWTC and he was a genuinely kind, intelligent man with a great warped sense of humor like mine. He also loved and spoke highly of his family. I will be thinking of you all. *hugs*

Steve was an incredible man. Full of integrity and always one to take on a challenge, learn and innovate. He loved to learn. During my almost 8 years of knowing him, he came to my technology rescue many times. The words don't come easy at this time, as losing him is devastating. Perhaps what I most admired in Steve was his self-efficacy. He believed in himself. Even when he didn't know the answer to something, he knew he would be able to figure it out. He spoke often of his family, Laura, and children, and loved you very much. I can't help but think we are all going to need a lot of his self-efficacy right now, believing we can get along without him without really knowing how right now.
My sincerest condolences,
Joan Turba

In December 2017, Steve and I became officemates at NWTC. He was newfound treasure. At first, his straightforward opinion, vast knowledge of stuff and the position of his desk (as he could watch me work) was intimidating. But those uncertain feelings were soon overshadowed by my appreciation of Steve's willingness to share his deep understanding of stuff, his excitement to try out new things and his search for a comedic perspective in the workday. Steve became very easy to know- open to questions, apparent (and logical) in his perspective, ready to laugh and genuine with his faults (mainly allergies and the spelling of words). His pride in his children and love for his wife was always apparent; not a day went by without a comment of appreciation of Laura.
In our short time together, he became an inspiring and formative figure in my life. I will miss him and I am sad that we all do not have more time with Steve; his laughter and creativity were great medicine for all.
Positive thoughts and deep sympathy go out to his family and friends.

Casey, Becky and family,
Sad to hear the news of Steve's passing. The ones who did not cross paths with Steve are the ones who will miss him the most. They didn't get a chance to have him tell, show, teach to problem solve and get around the electronics. He was a real wiz at what he did, say and teach. He really helped me here at RRDonnelley to meet the needs of my job. I still have the papers he gave me to keep moving forward. Thinking of all at this time and hope we all have learned something from this man. The biggest was smile, just smile.

Doing a caricature of Steve was easy when he joined our team. His bold, fun personality was visible to all who came in contact with him. His loss has left us deeply saddened and he will be truly missed. My heart goes out to his family during this difficult time.

Holding you all close in thought during this difficult time. I enjoyed working as a teammate of Steve's while at NWTC and most recently on a contract project. I admired how eagerly he learned and took on challenges.
