Theo Cross Obituary

Theo Joan Cross

Appleton - Theo Joan "Brownie" Cross, 88, formerly of Beaver Dam, WI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at her residence at Renaissance Assisted Living in Appleton.

She was born in Green Bay on August 1, 1929, daughter of the late Edgar and Nora (Frank) Brewster. She graduated from Omro High School in 1947 and Green Lake County Normal in 1949, teaching for 6 years in one room rural schools in the area. She married Lowell "Bill" Cross on June 12th, 1954 and moved to Beaver Dam in 1960. When her children were older she returned to college, graduating from UW Oshkosh in 1978 with a degree in Education. She then taught for 12 years at Washington Elementary in Waupun.

Brownie was known for her strong spirit and independence. She loved the outdoors, spending many summers camping with her family in National Forest Campgrounds throughout Wisconsin. In later years she also enjoyed traveling with Bill in the family RV. After retirement in 1992 Bill and Brownie built a cabin on Aldridge Lake near Eagle River and spent summers relaxing and enjoying the outdoors with children and grandchildren. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and Alpha Beta Kappa.

Survivors include 3 children; daughter Debbie (Tom) Rueter, Beaver Dam, son David (Lisa) Cross, New London, and son Andy (Deb) Cross, Appleton; grandchildren Ben Rueter, Syd Reed and Hannah, Taylor, Rachel, Levi and Shannon Cross; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lowell "Bill"; daughter Linda (Pat) Hynes and brothers Roger Brewster and Larry Brewster.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Chris Davis will officiate.
