Thomas Allcox Obituary

Allcox, Thomas

Thomas George Allcox, 87, is at peace in the arms of the Lord and was greeted in Heaven by his oldest son, Dan, on Saturday, May 21, 2016. He was born on February 22, 1929, to the late Peter and Anna (Van Dyck) Allcox. Tom and his wife Dorothy moved to Neenah and made it their home for the past 60 years. Growing up in De Pere, Thomas enlisted in the United States Army serving 4 years in Japan and the Korean War with 7th Infantry Division. He finished his tour of duty at Fort Riley, Kansas as acting Sergeant Major of the Army General School Detachment, and was discharged in May of 1952. He was a Life Member of De Pere VFW Post 2113 and served as Commander, a Charter member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church and served as Cub Master for pack #74 for 25 years. He served 15 years with the Catholic Scout Committee for the Green Bay Diocese and received the St. George Award in Scouting. Tom was an active member of the church, was the parish representative on St. Mary's School board and served as Vice President for 2 years. For many years he was the prayer leader for the rosary on Monday nights and participated in weekly adoration at the Eucharistic Chapel at St. Margaret Mary's Church. Tom and Dorothy were facilitator's for couples planning marriage, CFM and Renew groups. Tom was truly a "Friend of Youth" and was a Life Member of the Neenah-Menasha Breakfast Optimist Club for 35 years where he served as President, Secretary, Treasurer and Lt. Governor. He served as Secretary and Treasurer for the Wisconsin Upper Michigan District. Tom and his family transferred to Neenah with the Frito Lay Potato Chip Company where he worked for many years. After some time he became Executive Rooms Manager at the Pioneer Inn in Oshkosh for 17 years and then transferred to the Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton as Controller for 10 years. He worked as a part-time School Bus Driver for Kobussen Bus Company and after his retirement was a Neenah school crossing guard for 10 years.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 63 years Dorothy, daughter in-law Julie Allcox, sons Pete (Cindy), Tom (Rose), Ken (Sandy), Dick (Cathy), Kevin (Lori) and Mike (Amy). Grandchildren: Heather, Chad, Nick (Amie), Jennifer, Tom (Guin), Jason (Kara), Kari (Blake), Kimberly (Andrew), Becky (Mike), Amanda (Brian), Kathleen, Kyle, Justin, Jacob, Brianna and Brandon. Great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Devin, Jashon, Lyla, Vale, Elle, Chloe, Addison, Randi, Abby, John and Megan.

He was preceded in death by his son Dan, granddaughter Delanie, brother George, sisters Mary Ann (Francis) Derouin, Florence Hannon, Helen Allcox, and Charlotte Verheyen, nephews Peter and Joe Hannon and Daniel Verheyen, niece Deb Albers, in-laws George and Martha Smits, brothers-in-law George Jr, Henry, Robert, Jerome, and Donald Smits, Don Baeten, Tom Kaczmierczak and Sam Albers as well as sisters-in-laws Mary Lou and Phyllis Smits and Bert Kaczmierczak.

He was a faithful follower of the Chicago Cubs and always dreamed of seeing them win a pennant. Prior to Tom's illness he would read for hours and collected quite the library of books. He was a proud father and believed in his sons, he loved when they would visit and waited each week for their call. He followed his grandchildren in all their sports and special activities, knowing they could always count on grandma and grandpa being there. Dorothy truly was the love of Tom's life. He would tell her each day that he loved her more that day than when they first met and made sure that she received a red rose each week. We will never forget your face, your voice, your touch and how much you always loved us. The lessons we have learned from you and all the things you stood for....is truly your gift and your legacy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 900 Geiger St., Neenah, with Fr. Larry Seidl officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery, 2121 Riverside Dr., Allouez. Visitation will be held Wednesday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass. Military honors will be performed by members of the US Army and the Neenah-Menasha Veterans Honor Team following the services.

He was one of the nicest, most family-oriented, devoted husband and father that we have ever known! He was a great example for his sons to follow and now his grandchildren. I worked with him At The Pioneer Inn many years ago, and we became friends of him and Dorothy and their boys. We wil never forget him. God will welcome him to Heaven and put him on a Committee! With our sympathy, Linda and Bob Wolfe
