Nabbefeld, Vernon L. "Nobby"

Vernon Lee Nabbefeld, 88 of Appleton died Thursday December 26, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Appleton December 22, 1925. Vernon married Carol Benbrooks on October 11, 1958.

Vern served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked at Riverside Paper as an Electrician for 17 years. He also served as Union President. Vern and Carol owned and operated, "Nobby and Carol's Club 47" for 15 ½ years, both retiring in 1984. They were members of St. Therese Catholic Church, Appleton, and Vern was a past member of American Legion Post #78. He enjoyed his time fishing with his son, Al, playing cards, shooting craps, and traveling, especially his numerous trips to Vegas with Carol. Vern's greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.

Vern is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol; his three children; daughters, Debra (Mick) Denzel and Karen Hottenstine; and son, Alan (Michelle); four grandchildren, Adam (Cara) Wege, Melissa (Darin) Orth, Erin Nabbefeld, and Eric Nabbefeld (fiancée Kayla Zolkowski); his great-granddaughter, Olivia Wege. Vern is further survived by his children from a previous marriage; Jean Sether, Ralph (Helen), Robert, and Nancy Parker; and his sister-in-law, Pat Nabbefeld. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; and three brothers, William, Gerald, and Ralph; and a sister-in-law, Loretta.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday December 29, 2013 at ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 213 E Wisconsin Ave, Appleton with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday beginning at 1:00 PM until the hour of service.

Vern's family will be eternally grateful to his granddaughter, Melissa for all her care and support. "You were Grandpa's Angel on Earth". A special thank-you to the staff of St. Paul Hospice, especially Lauren.
