Engel, Wayne C.

Wayne C. Engel, age 80, died Wednesday March 4, 2015, at Harbor Community Campus, Port Washington, Wisconsin. Wayne was born on May 12, 1934, in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, the son of the late Arthur and Anne (McCholic) Engel. He was united in marriage to Rosemary (Posie) Hanig on Aug. 13, 1955, in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Wayne graduated in 1952 from Appleton High School and went to work as an apprentice machinist at Valley Iron Works in Appleton. He left Valley Iron Works to work at J.W. Hewitt Machine Company in Neenah, where he became a journeyman machinist and shop steward. He was later promoted to plant superintendent and then to manufacturing manager before retiring in 1984 after 25 years with the company. Wayne was in the Naval Reserves for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. Wayne loved his family and enjoyed these activities with his wife, son and grandchildren, as well as the many special relatives that visited him at his Lake Winnebago home. He was especially known for his machining of sturgeon spears, and supplied many spears to area fisherman.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Posie) of Port Washington; his son, Scott (Dana) Engel of Fredonia; and two grandchildren: Alex Engel, Newburg, and Max Engel, Fredonia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Tim Hanig, mother-in-law Mildred Hanig and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 5 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends can visit from 2PM until the time of service on Sunday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday March 9, 2015 at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
