Alan K. Weeks, born Dec. 5, 1946, to Howard and Dorothy Weeks of Irwin, Idaho, died June 2, 2011, following a sudden illness, surrounded by family and friends.
Alan grew up in Irwin, Idaho, where he learned to love the outdoors, hunting, fishing and working with his dad on the farm.
This is where Alan developed his fun and teasing personality. He loved roaming the mountains, whether it was riding his horses, four-wheeling or just on a road trip. He was always at home when he was in the mountains. He had a huge love of life and he lived it to the fullest.
At an early age, he and his cousin, Howard Ashment, ventured off to Arizona, where he met and married Milssent Star Bland. They made their home in Mesa, Ariz. Together they had three sons, Jeff, Jason and Andy. Alan and Star were later divorced.
While in Arizona, he learned the trade of floor covering and started his own carpet company, which he continued until the time of his death.
A few years later, Alan moved back to his roots in Idaho to be close to his family and the mountains he loved. There, he met and married his soul mate and his best friend, Kris Newman Weeks. They had many happy, fun-filled years together.
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a handsome and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out and proclaiming, 'WOW, WHAT A RIDE!'" Alan is survived by his loving wife, Kris Weeks of Tetonia; sons, Jeff (Christine) Weeks and Jason (Marianne) Weeks, both of Arizona; stepdaughters, Jody Kaufman (Kory) Hill of Tetonia, Tara Kaufman (Taylor) Smith of Idaho Falls, Chelsey Ann Kaufman, presently serving our country in the Navy, and Danille Thurston of Colorado, whom he also raised; six grandchildren, which were the light of his life; six sisters; three brothers; and many loving aunts; uncles and cousins.
Alan was preceded in death by his son, Andy Weeks; his father and mother; his grandparents; two sisters; and one brother.
He was loved and will be missed by all.
There will be a service for a celebration of Alan's life at 3 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Pert-Nere-A-Ranch, 850 W. Highway 33, Tetonia, ID 83452. Happy hour will be at 5 p.m.

I was sorry to hear of Alan's passing. My condolences go to the family at this time of grief. It brought back memories of growing up in Swan Valley and many associations with the Weeks family.
Sincerely, Joanne Wiese Ward
