Anne Howell

1960 - 2025

Anne Marie Howell, 64, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 5, 2025, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.

Anne was born April 23, 1960, in Dekalb, IL, to Dale Robert Carter and Bonnie Goodrich Carter. She grew up in Charlottesville and Winchester, VA, graduating from John Handley High School. She continued her education at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA and later graduated from University of Tennessee.

On June 14, 1986, she married Walker Fleming Howell in Nashville, TN. Anne and Walker, along with their two daughters, made their home in Idaho Falls in 1997. Anne taught 5th grade at Tiebreaker Elementary School for 15 years, during which time she touched he lives of many students and staff. She retired in 2022.

She enjoyed traveling, reading, camping, getting together with friends, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was the bedrock foundation for her family, which could count on her for a well-cooked meal, a laugh, wisdom, tenderness, and a big hug. While she had spent most of her life in the eastern US, she heartily adopted the Intermountain West culture and absolutely loved her life in Idaho. During many road trips with her family and husband, you might find her listening to her favorite music en route to a new location and adventure. She especially loved visiting the coast, with its ocean breezes, sand, and sun. She touched the hearts of many people throughout her life and her spirit is carried on by those whose lives were influenced by her love, caring, and companionship.

Anne is survived by her husband, Walker Howell of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Katy (Alex) Ingram of Meridian, ID; daughter, Megan Howell of Beaverton, OR; brother, Mark (Lorraine ) Carter of Cary, NC; brother, Bruce (Amy) Carter of Medina, OH; sister, Jane (Paul) Rogers of Crozet, VA; mother, Bonnie (Dale) Carter of Stuarts Draft, VA; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dale Robert Carter.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
