Cheryl Wilcox Obituary

After a long courageous battle with cancer, Cheryl Wilcox, age 61, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, in Bingham Memorial Hospital, 31 March 2019.

She was born on July 29th 1957, in Montpelier, Idaho to Earl and Donna Wilcox, the 5th daughter in a close knit family. Her one brother would be born and join the family two years later.

Growing up in Montpelier the family enjoyed fishing, camping and swimming in Bear Lake.

When Cheryl was sixteen, her family moved to Blackfoot, Idaho. It was very hard to leave Montpelier because both of her parents were born and raised there and many family members were there. It didn't take long however to get to know, love, and feel right at home with all the great people in Blackfoot. Cheryl attended her junior and senior years in Blackfoot high school. After graduation she attended Ricks College and Idaho State University.

Upon her return from serving a mission in Frankfurt Germany, Cheryl went to work for the Idaho National Laboratory for the next 32 years. She loved her work and the people she worked with. She retired in 2017.

Throughout her life Cheryl was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served valiantly in many capacities. She enjoyed serving others, going to the temple regularly and doing genealogy work.

She loved music and her talents were utilized playing the piano and organ at many various gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Raymond Wilcox and Donna Robison Wilcox, and her sisters, Donna Marie Wilcox, Lois Wilcox, and her brother, Russell Earl Wilcox. She is survived by two remaining sisters, Beverly Wilcox Erickson (Eric) of Archer, Idaho and Arlene Wilcox, Los Angeles, CA.

Cheryl loved her family and enjoyed visits with her sisters and being with her many nieces, nephews and their families.

Most of all Cheryl had a strong testimony and loved visiting with family and friends about things that were close to her heart.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 5 April 2019, at 11am at the LDS Blackfoot 12th Ward Chapel, 1289 Mount Putnam Drive, in Blackfoot.

The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday night from 6 - 8 pm at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue, in Blackfoot and again Friday morning from 10 to 10:45am, in the Blackfoot 12th Ward meeting house prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery at approximately 3:30pm, Friday afternoon.

What a surprise to see Cheryl's passing. I knew her as "Schwester Wilcox" in Duisburg, Germany. She taught me to enjoy life and love serving a mission. I'm grateful for her goodness!

Cheryl was such a special friend and co-worker to me and my husband. We worked with Cheryl for many years, and never heard her complain or say anything negative about anyone. It was a special gift to share our friendship with her. We are very sad to lose her, she will be missed. Her faith was so strong. She is in a place that will make her so happy and free of any pain. We send our love and caring to all her family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Wilcox family. I graduated high school with her..always so bubbly and kind. Years later she was in my parents ward. She was such a sweetheart when I asked her to play the organ for my mom's funeral (2017)..She will be dearly missed .

So sorry to read about Cheryls passing. It brought back a lot of memories of the house on the corner. I was a year older than Lois but knew the whole family. I even lived in Moreland after I got married. I am now in Phoenix and my mom and dad come down to spend the winter. I shared the link with them. They also want the family how much the Wilcox family was special to our family. Our best to the family. Vaughn and Yvonne Pugmire family.

I was so sorry to hear about Cheryl. I lived down the street to her and Lois when I lived in Blackfoot. She and Lois were my first visiting teachers and my children and I loved them. My children said that they played an important role in their lives as they were growing up. I was inactive in the church and there was never an unkind word said and they were always positive. Cheryl would always find ways to bear her testimony and help me keep look forward. We loved to hear Cheryl play the piano in our church meetings. She was always being us treats and especially at Christmas, they brought a big box of oranges and other goodies. Heaven has truly gained an angle.

I was able to get to know Cheryl being a new employee out at the facility she worked at. We had a few trips back across the desert to Blackfoot together. I always enjoyed the conversations and hearing about the history of the INL. What a wonderful kind spirit and an amazing lady. My prayers to all of the family and friends of Cheryl, a shining example of an angel on earth. Many blessings to all.

Cheryl was a breath of sunshine. She always had a smile on her face. She was one tuff lady to go through what she went through and able to come back to work and still with a big smile. She was an awesome baker and made the best brownies that everyone loved. I'm saddened to hear of her passing. She will be missed.

Cheryl was an amazing lady. We loved her & her family. She always had a positive presence in my life. She babysat me & my brother's when we were young. Later she was my Primary & Beehive leader. She never got angry, no matter how many Chinese fire drills we did in her car after Young Womens, rather, she would just laugh & laugh & laugh. When I got married & had children, we took the kids trick or treating to see her & the family just so we could visit with them at least once a year. After 14 consecutive Halloween visits, I can safely say, Halloween will never be quite the same without her. She will be dearly missed.

I worked with Cheryl for many years at the INL she was a great person and was always happy and willing to help with anything she could. We would always joke with each other because we were the same age and I was from Malad. God bless her and her family she was a wonderful person.

Cheryl was one of the most amazing individuals in my life. She was always there for me while I was in my awkward Beehive years. Later in life, she became a dear friend whom I saw at least once a year on Halloween, when I would bring my kids to trick or treat her (just so I could visit with her). Heaven has gained another beautiful angel. She will be sorely missed. Til we meet again, dear friend!

My cousin Cheryl was so sweet and kind and so much fun to spend time with. Everything she did seemed effortless and always with a smile. I miss her so much already. I can only imagine the joyous reunion in Heaven that awaited her and I am a little jealous! Till we meet again...

Cheryl was the go to girl at the site, she knew everyone and in my opinion did everything. When she left it took 4 different people to do part of the stuff she did. I'm sure there are many things she did that we still don't know about. She will be missed by all. She loved to tease everyone. I'm so happy that she will get to be with the rest of her family and is no longer in pain. She was such a special friend. I will miss her.
