David Sargis

1962 - 2024

David Kemp Sargis, 62, of Idaho Falls passed away on June 12, 2024 at home following an extended heart illness. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Kemp was born February 8, 1962, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to David Sargis and Gaye Veeneman Sargis. He spent his early life in Idaho Falls, attending school and graduating from Shelley High School. He worked and resided in Hawaii for a few years, later returning home to Idaho Falls.

Kemp had a zest for life! He was always up for a spontaneous good time or adventure. When he asked you to go fishing, he wouldn't let you put it off for another time, his attitude was "Let's go!" Sometimes the boat worked and sometimes it didn't, but it was always fun. Kemp worked hard and played hard.

Kemp's passion was anything to do with tools or anything that had a motor in it. He prided himself on quality work and was a talented craftsman. He crafted amazing stories! Kemp told a story better than anyone. He had a mind like a Rolodex and could recount details that no one else could possibly remember. If he told you a story once you were sure to hear it again next year or even the next time he saw you. No matter what he was feeling, he felt it big. His stories often got bigger in the retelling, and were always entertaining. He poured all his emotion into the retelling and shared the most outrageous and amusing encounters he had with people. We loved hearing about his adventures.

He loved life and lived it on his own terms. Anyone that knew him knew he had a good heart. Kemp was generous, sometimes to a fault. He would share whatever he had with anyone. He was kind and a friend to many. Kemp was great at remembering people. If he met you once, he remembered you forever. He would do anything for anybody at the drop of a hat. He sometimes tried to portray himself as tough, someone you don't cross, but under it all he was the sweetest guy and loved his friends, family, and his pets deeply.

For those of us that knew and love Kemp, there will be a large void left that cannot be filled. He was one of a kind. He was larger than life. We're gonna miss you Kemp.

Kemp is survived by his parents, David and Arlene Sargis, Gaye and Dan Weekes; siblings, John Curtis Sargis of Idaho Falls, ID, Monette Shiree Wilson of Washington, UT, Mark Fisher of Idaho Falls, ID, Kristen Sargis of Idaho Falls, ID, Jennifer (Max) Bennett of Richland, WA, Heather (Jesse) Burcham of Jackson, WY, Marianne (Zac) Bodily of Shelley, ID; 16 nieces and nephews; dog, Doober; and cat Cosmo.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Jack and Marge Veenman, Dave and Bernice Sargis, and Glenn and Margaret Zweifel; two infant siblings, Bridget Sargis, and Brian Sargis; and niece, Brittani Beauford.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge). The family will visit with friends Monday, June 17, 2024, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home and also from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial at Taylor Cemetery will follow immediately after.
