Obituary published on Legacy.com by Plainville Funeral Home - Plainville on Jan. 30, 2026.
Robert Samuel Sargis, Sr.
Brigadier General (RET), Connecticut Army National Guard

Robert Samuel Sargis, Sr., 91 of Farmington, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday January 28, 2026. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Cynthia (Pardee), who predeceased him in 2006.

Born and raised in New Britain, Robert grew up alongside his extended family and cherished grandparents, from whom he inherited a deep pride in his Assyrian heritage. As a young man, he developed a lifelong love of baseball, spending countless days playing until dark at Walnut Hill Park.

In 1957, Robert began a distinguished military career with the United States Army, proudly serving his country for over 50 years, culminating in his retirement as a Brigadier General with the Connecticut Army National Guard. His service was marked by integrity, leadership, and pride in the nation he served.

Bob and Cynthia were married in 1959, and settled in Plainville, where together they raised their four children and built a home rooted in love, discipline, and dedication. Family was always his greatest priority, and he was a constant presence; hard working, supportive, and deeply devoted.

A man known for his tireless work ethic and lifelong passion for learning, Bob pursued education with determination and curiosity. He was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State College and earned his master's degree from the University of Connecticut. Professionally, he devoted more than 30 years as an engineer with the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, retiring in 1995 as Principal Air Pollution Control Engineer.

Robert will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his pride in his country, his constant pursuit of knowledge, and above all, his deep love and dedication to his family. His legacy of service, integrity, and devotion will live on through those who loved him and the many lives he touched.

He is survived by his children, Robert Sargis, Jr. and his wife Krystal; Laura Jones, Julie Hermann and her partner Rick Rogan, and Dawn Richardson and her husband Tim; his eight grandchildren, Lindsay, Michael, Rachel, Jesse, Abigail, Madison, Andrew and Christian; five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Peyton, Olivia, Bria and James; along with his extended family.

In lieu of flowers, Bob may be remembered with contributions to the Dementia Society of America at http://www.dementiasociety.org

Family and friends may gather in celebration of Bob's extraordinary life on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 5-7 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville.
