Dorothy "Dolores" Wallace, 83, the matriarch of our family, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 11, 2015.
Dolores was born to Carl and Nora Haller on July 3, 1931, in Idaho Falls. She grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. Later that same year, Dolores married Uriel Scott "Wally" Wallace on Nov. 20, 1949.
She held many positions in community businesses including working as a secretary to the postmaster and was a cook at the Idaho Falls High School cafeteria before managing the Skyline High School cafeteria for many years. At elections, Dolores could always be found working at the local precinct. Her most important jobs included being a grandmother, mother and a homemaker, and she always prioritized her time accordingly.
She loved outdoor activities and enjoyed water and snow skiing and camping including the annual family trip to Redfish Lake. She also participated with her husband in square dancing with Shelley Ruffles & Russets and Idaho Falls Promenaders. She and her husband enjoyed traveling both throughout the United States and abroad.
Dolores participated in the Sewettes Sewing Club and enjoyed cooking, quilting, crocheting and embroidery, but particularly worked long hours producing prized scrapbooks of her family and trips. She was a meticulous housekeeper and always had a well manicured yard including beautiful flowers and roses.
She dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren and every grandchild feels as if they were her favorite. She remembered every birthday, anniversary and special event with a card or a phone call. Most recently, she had adapted to using Facebook to stay in touch with her friends and particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dolores sacrificed for and relished in the success of her family members. Her caring nature allowed her to touch the lives of many through her kindness. She cherished the time spent with family during holidays and family gatherings.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dolores served in many capacities including Young Woman's president, stake Primary presidency and den mother, to name a few, but will be remembered most for always being there with a listening ear or delicious food for those in need.
Dolores is survived by her husband of 65 years, Uriel "Wally" Wallace of Idaho Falls; sons, Bruce (Linda) Wallace of Idaho Falls, Ken (Kami) Wallace of Arlington, Texas, Ron (Sue) Wallace of Idaho Falls and Gary (Cyndi) Wallace of Idaho Falls; daughter, Tammy (Scott) Cross of Idaho Falls; and brother, George (Glenda) Haller of Idaho Falls. She leaves behind, but influenced, the lives of 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Nora Haller, and brother, Bob Haller.
She was blessed with countless lifetime friends including Betty and Darlo Hansen, Joy and Bill Hobbs, Melba and Lew Opperman, and Montie and Lynn Pardonnet, and their families.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 16, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., with Bishop Jay Doman officiating.
