To Ellen's family, I am only just seeing this. Ellen and I attended Bread Loaf in the early '90s, and I was on the campuses in Vermont and Lincoln College Oxford with her. We graduated with our master's degrees 30 years ago this summer, and I went on an online search to see if I could find her. I can't tell you how sorry I was to find this. We lost touch soon after graduation, but we were in classes together over the summers, and we took great joy in talking about literature, art, and teaching. She was a doll, smart and creative. I keep a photo of her, with a group of Bread Loaf friends, on my bookshelf. (In the photo, Anna Citrino is on the left, and I am on the right.) Sending love and condolences to your family, Lisa O'Hara, NYC

It has been many years since I have seen Ellen, but I have many fond and happy memories of our friendship. When I was deciding whether or not I wanted to transfer from University of Idaho to Utah State University, I called Ellen and asked her if she could show me around campus. I remember that she was very busy, but took the whole afternoon off to give me a blue-ribbon tour and convince me that USU was the place for me. That one decision in many ways lead me to my entire career and current wonderful life that I enjoy here in Logan. It was just one of many examples of how Ellen would put the needs of others in front of her own. I greatly admire the Pearson family and am happy to occasionally run into Kjerstin. My wishes for peace and comfort go out to you all. I'm sorry to not be able to attend the funeral but I only just learned of Ellen's passing yesterday. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Sincerely,
Hal Briggs

Ellen was a wonderful friend who was always willing to listen to and to serve others. From the first time I met her through visiting teaching, we became friends. She was someone I could rely on when I needed a friend or just a listening ear. I will miss her smiling face. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Love ya my friend!!!
