James Moncur Obituary

James "Jim" Grant Moncur, 89, longtime resident of Ririe, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at his seasonal home in Quartzsite, Arizona.

Jim was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Malta, Idaho, to James Moncur and Ida Nielson Moncur. He attended schools in Ririe and graduated from Ririe High School. He was a member of the Ririe High School six-man football team that won the Idaho State Football Championship in 1946.

He married Margaret Blair on Aug. 18, 1948, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Aug. 22, 1962. He farmed in the Ririe area as well as Diamond Valley, Nevada. He also was a potato inspector for the state of Idaho. He most loved farming and dogs.

His early years were filled with adventure, especially with the Boy Scout troop he joined. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1944. He spent his whole life looking for opportunities to help others any way he could. He could fix anything. He was well liked by everyone.

Jim spent many years serving with the Ririe Senior Citizens. He served as president for 15 years and was instrumental in building the Ririe Senior Citizens Center. Later in life, he cared for his mother in her failing health and then for his wife Margaret until she passed away. One of the highlights of his later life was a visit to his ancestral family's Moncur Castle in Scotland.

Jim used his artistic talent to do metal work and woodcarving projects, which he worked on in his spare time. He sold his metal yard flowers to enthusiastic customers at local fairs in Idaho and Arizona. He also collected antique bottles and got numerous blue ribbons at the Idaho State Fair and other places. Jim was a loving father, grandfather, brother and husband. Many people will miss his love and generosity.

He is survived by his children, Shawna Fellows-David (Jim), Blair Moncur (Leni), Mary Faccio (Ron) and Laurel Neilson (Bob), and two brothers, Blaine Moncur (Joyce) and Richard Moncur (Cleone). He had 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ida Moncur; his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Margie Moncur; three sisters, Donna Ker, Redean Yates and Hazel Beth Moncur; and a great-grandson, Andrew Fellows.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St., in Rigby, Idaho. The family will visit with friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com.

So sad to hear this...I remember many years ago when he was our home teacher, he told the funniest stories. He was a great guy, and will be missed by many! Hugs and prayer to the family.
