James Smiley Obituary

James (Jim) LeRoy Smiley, a longtime resident of Idaho Falls, passed away on May 27, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nevada where he was residing at the time. He was 88 years old. Jim and his wife Lois (deceased) moved to Idaho in the late 1970s where they raised a daughter Brenna (deceased) and three sons James, Gary, and Mike. He worked in town for EG&G and other government contractors as well as out at the INL. He was involved in his children's soccer, tennis, and ice hockey activities and enjoyed traveling and watching all types of car racing. Originally from Hutchinson, Kansas, Jim was a fan of the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team. Jim attended the University of Kansas, Kansas State, and Emporia State where he graduated. Later, he earned a Masters in Computer Science from the University of Idaho and worked as a Systems Analyst. A veteran of the Korean War, he served his country in the United States Army and later the United States Air Force. Jim had a brother and sister who have both passed away. He is survived by his three sons, a daughter-in-law, and his three granddaughters. Gone but not forgotten. Rest in peace.
