Gerald "Jerry" Young Foss, 88, of Idaho Falls, peacefully passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living Center.
Jerry was born March 16, 1926, in Crofton, Neb., to Daniel N. Foss and Pearl Evelyn Young-Foss. He grew up and attended schools in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating from Central High School in 1944. After high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served from 1944 to 1946. He served as an airplane propeller mechanic and flew aboard the B-17. He received the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the good conduct medal. Although he didn't see any action, the stories of the cities where he was stationed and the girls he chased were certainly entertaining.
Jerry was honorably discharged from the military and returned to Sioux City to continue his education at Morning Side College where he received a bachelor's degree in business in 1950.
Jerry was quite the athlete. In his younger years, he trained as a body builder. He held titles such as Mr. Iowa and Mr. Nutrition. He also played handball until racquet ball became the craze. He played in many local tournaments. And then there was golf! — which can only be likened to an addiction; if he wasn't playing golf, he was watching it on television. Thank you to all the pros who befriended him.
He worked many years as a Realtor for Coldwell Banker Eagle Rock. He enjoyed his membership in Kiwanis Club where he was two time past President and held a 50-year perfect attendance record. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Georgia Foss; and brother, Don Foss. Survivors are his sister, Barbara (Roger) Dean of Chantilly, Va.; daughter, Taminy (Eric) Hoke of Albuquerque, N.M.; son, Greg Foss of San Francisco, Calif.; stepdaughter, Alisa (Tim) Nadauld of Idaho Falls; and two grandsons, Max Nadauld and Jensen Hoke.
"We love you, Dad."
A Celebration of Life will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Jaker's Restaurant, 851 Lindsay Blvd. in Idaho Falls.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Idaho Falls Junior Golf Association, 701 E. Elva, Idaho Falls, ID 83401, c/o Tim Reinke.

Although I didn't get to talk to Foss much since my move to Pocatello, he has always been in my heart. Words cannot express how much I enjoyed working with him at Coldwell Banker all those years ago. Such a great man! I'm sure he is missed, but he will never be forgotten.
