John Edward "Ed" Techick, 85, died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
Ed was born, Sept. 30, 1924, at home in the Timber Mountain Basin. As a young child, Ed and his family moved closer to Arco, Idaho, where he would ride his horse to and from school.
Following graduation, Ed enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He returned home to Arco after his enlistment and worked on the family ranch. He met and married Ruby Kelso. They had four children, Teresa, Terrell, Pennie and Sheila. They were later divorced.
On Dec. 19, 1953, he married Lois Stephens in Arco. They resided in the Arco area, where they owned and operated the Lost Rivers Cleaners until Ed's retirement in 1988.
Ed loved working with horses and was inducted into the Horseman's Hall of Fame for his work. He was well-known for his abilities with training horses and gave many residents up and down the valley riding lessons. He also enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.
Surviving is his wife, Lois Techick of Idaho Falls; a son, Terrell (Janice) Techick of Idaho Falls; daughters, Pennie (Rob) Stauffer of Arco, and Sheila Combe of Bakersfield, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Teresa; a sister, Norine; and two grandchildren, Dax and Destrey Stauffer.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Anderson Family Funeral Home, 2555 N. Highway 93 in Arco, with Pastor Keith Stayman officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Arco.
