Lyla Carson Harris Heileson, 103, of Idaho Falls, passed away Sept. 25, 2010, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community. She was under the care of One Source Hospice.
Lyla was born Sept. 19, 1907, in Iona to Charles Harrison Carson and Charlotte Luella Nixon Carson. She attended Ammon, Iona and O.E. Bell schools.
She married William Otis "Ott" Harris in May 1924 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in Ashton. Ott preceded her in death Dec. 31, 1966.
She married Ralph Ammon Heileson on Oct. 6, 1971, in Salmon. They lived in Tetonia, Ashton, Island Park and Idaho Falls. Together they served an LDS mission to Tallahassee, Fla., from 1975 to 1976. Ralph preceded her in death Aug. 30, 1984.
Lyla was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Sunday school, as president of the ward Relief Society, as a primary and mutual teacher and as a visiting teacher.
She enjoyed embroidery, gardening, fishing, dancing and collecting salt and pepper shakers.
Survivors include daughters, Delores (Paul Donald) McCloud of St. George, Utah, Gaynol Valentine of Idaho Falls, and Kay (David O.) Zundel of Rigby; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 10 siblings; two husbands; three children, Althea MarJean Reiman Taylor, Otis Lyle Harris and Gerald Scott Harris; and four grandchildren, Yvonne Reiman Maughan, Troy Harris, Gregory Scott Harris and Angela Zundel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, with Jon Wood officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services. Burial will be in Ashton Cemetery.
