Mary Shippen Obituary

Mary Sue Streeper Shippen….

Sue was born January 2, 1942, to Denis Howard and Sarah Lyle Rhodes Streeper. She grew up on the Family farm in the Ririe, Idaho area with one brother and three sisters, and graduated from Ririe High School in 1960. She was Yearbook Editor and active in many clubs. She also reigned over Homecoming, Junior Prom, Harvest Ball, and the Jefferson County Fair.

After graduation she attended Ricks College as a Business Major. She was involved in music, choir, and the Program Bureau and was a member of the Vikadette dance team.

She met, dated, and later married Emmett Jay Shippen on August 6, 1961. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 7, 1962

Sue and Emmett lived in Provo, Utah until Emmett graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. They moved to Arcadia, California for a year where he taught accelerated math to Junior High students. They returned to Menan, Idaho to begin a father/son partnership in a large cattle business and farming operation. That life was productive for them, and Sue truly loved her new role of raising children, with a passion to work and beautify their surroundings.

Sue was an excellent swimmer, seamstress, barber, table tennis player, and aerobic enthusiast. With the love of the gospel, she was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served faithfully in a variety of callings including Relief Society President, Young Women President, Primary Counselors, and taught many youth classes. She loved Temple service and was an avid Indexer for the church.

Sue was a lifetime record keeper and family historian. She wrote countless poetry and also wrote daily in her diaries throughout her life. She genuinely loved people and especially loved motherhood and grandparenting. Living in Menan provided an ideal family life where she and Emmett raised more than crops and cattle. They were blessed with 5 wonderful children who worked hard to accomplish their responsibilities and pursue other activities. As a sports family, Emmett and Sue were always happiest supporting their children in many athletic involvements, and events that filled their lives.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters Nadine (Ed deceased) Hemsley, Sarah Joyce (Bob deceased) Schneiter, Linda Grace Streeper, and a son Russell Charles. She is survived by a brother Eugene (Pauline) Streeper, and children Shane Emmett (Nancy) Shippen, Trent Wesley (Jean) Shippen, Troy Jay (Janet) Shippen, Amy Sue (Eric) Mortensen, and Ty Ben Shippen. She was blessed with 22 grandchildren and thus far 14 great grandchildren.
