Metta May Hocking Bare passed away at The Willows in Blackfoot, Idaho, on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016. After Wayne passed in March 2015, Metta's health declined rapidly, attesting to the true bond that they shared during their 63-year marriage.
Metta was born May 21, 1933, to Clara and Tom Hocking of Howe, Idaho. She was born in Arco, Idaho, in a house that still stands on Grand Avenue that was the hospital assisted by a nurse. She was raised, married and raised her family in the same house on their ranch, where she lived for all but about 10 years of her entire life, living the last 15 months at The Willows in Blackfoot.
Metta met Wayne Bare during the summer of 1950 when they went on a blind date to a "picture show" in Arco. They were married Oct. 7, 1951. They would have just celebrated 65 years of marriage. They had two daughters.
Metta and Wayne farmed and ranched their entire married lives, living on their current ranch since 1963. Metta was a completely dedicated rancher and farmer woman from her Wrangler jeans right down to her McGiver-like ways of rigging gate latches and chicken waterers. She assisted in all aspects of their farming and ranching operations. She was good with horses and cows, a great cowboy on a horse. She took great pride in raising a couple of baby deer that hung around their ranch for many years bringing back their fawns.
Metta was a quiet person, always clean, well dressed and proper… a good example to follow. Throughout her life, Metta enjoyed snow skiing, snowmobiling, flying and motorcycling. Metta always liked to pack a picnic lunch and explore the local mountains, but there was nothing that she enjoyed more than her coffee and eating out in a restaurant. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to hear someone telling a story about her.
Metta is survived by her two daughters, Sharon (Kirby) Jensen of Moore, Idaho, and Karen (Brian) Hoff of Meridian, Idaho; grandchildren, Cheri (Scott) Hill of Priest Lake, Idaho, Krisi (Rick) Staten of Idaho Falls, Tyson Jensen of Shelley, Idaho, Hayes (Chandra) Jensen of Moore and Charlie Bare Hoff of Meridian. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Eric and Alex Staten, Nicolas and Wiley Hill, Tegan, Daja, Wade, Aspen, Jasper and Piper Jensen, all surviving family living in Idaho.
Also surviving is a brother, Martin (Vickie) Hocking of Bountiful, Utah, and sister-in-law, Rose Mary Hocking of Colona, Ill.
Preceding Metta in death are her husband, Wayne; her parents; brother, Tom Hocking; sister, Marie Jernberg; brother-in-law, Harry Jernberg; and sister-in-law, Judy Hocking.
Metta's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff at The Willows and Access Home Care and Hospice for their excellent care of Metta, for making Metta feel like she has been at home for the past 15 months and for making family members feel so welcome.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Howe Community Center with a viewing one hour prior to the funeral. A viewing will also be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Anderson's Funeral Home in Arco.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Little Lost River Community Organization, David Callister, Treasurer, P.O. Box 72, Howe, Idaho 83244, noting "Metta Bare Memorial" or to the Lost Rivers EMTs, P.O.Box 503, Arco, Idaho 83213 in Metta's memory, or donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

Thank you for allowing Access to care for your mom, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a true cowboy through and through. My greatest memory was her quote, she would tell everyone to smile, because it made the day even better.
