Phillip Norwood Obituary

Phillip ("Ike") E. Norwood (85) passed away peacefully at his home in Blackfoot, Idaho surrounded by family, September 8, 2025. Ike was born January 17, 1940 in Midwest WY to Leonard M. Norwood and Emily M. (Martines) Norwood. Ike was deeply patriotic and, upon graduating from high school in 1958, he joined the National Guard where he served for 4 years. Later, beginning as a roustabout in the oilfield, Ike worked his way up to senior drilling foreman for Amoco Production Company, traveling as far as Romania and Russia and receiving many accolades over the years. After retiring early from Amoco, Ike tried his hand at ranching, raising horses, cows, chickens, goats and geese at their beautiful home overlooking the Snake River. He also became quite the chef, caring as much about aesthetics as taste. He loved to entertain guests and host dinner parties. He was a formidable person who never let much stand in the way of his accomplishments and everyone who knew him knew there were two ways to do things, Ike's way and the wrong way.

Ike is survived by his wife Jan Thompson Norwood whom he wished he had met sooner so he could have loved her longer. Three daughters, Sonja (Richard) Monson, Philecia (Tom) Norwood-Fitzgerald, and Shannon (John) Albrecht. Nine grandchildren, Rocco, the grand-dog, fifteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and his younger sister, Linda (Roger) Krout, as well as best friend and nephew-in-law, Jerry Kroff, whom Ike enjoyed spending time with and drew comfort from, especially near the end of his life.

Ike was preceded in death by both parents, a younger brother, Kevin Norwood, and a daughter, Kellee Brust.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Symbii Home Health and Hospice. Their staff provided so much comfort and compassion to Ike and the family in his final days, especially his nurse, Fred Reyes, and his many caregivers.

Please join Ike's family and friends for a celebration of life to share stories, laughter, and tears on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Avenue, Blackfoot, Idaho from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
