Robert Hill Obituary

Robert Errol "Bob" Hill, 67, of Idaho Falls, went home to his loving Father in Heaven on Sunday morning, Feb. 20, 2011.

Bob was born Aug. 29, 1943, in Port Orford, Ore., to Jesse LeRoy Hill and Nello Von Rapp Hill.

He grew up on the highway east of Idaho Falls, where his mom owned a hobby shop, then he moved to Ucon, Idaho, where he lived on a chicken farm, and later he moved to the Ririe Highway, where they built a fence of wagon wheels around the property, which is still there today. He attended school in Lincoln and Ucon, and graduated from Bonneville High School. He attended trade schools for his journeyman, master's and contractors plumber's licenses.

He married Janis "Jan" Peterson on Aug. 29, 1963, in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized April 23, 1964, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Ririe and Ammon before making their permanent home on the west side of Idaho Falls.

Bob owned and operated Hill's Plumbing & Heating from 1970 to 1982. He then worked as a pipe fitter at Idaho National Laboratory, was a maintenance manager at National 9 Inns and a master plumber for First Call Jewel. At the time of his death, he was semi-retired, driving for Avis Rent-A-Car.

Bob was a member of the Helping Hands Club and Civil Defense, and was involved in the Boy Scouts of America.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bob served in the Boy Scouts, as a stake missionary and in the presidency of the Mountain View Ward Sunday school. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and brothers. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours fishing, hunting, fly tying, camping, riding his Honda Goldwing, going on float trips and anything else outdoor related. Bob was a friendly man and caring neighbor, and was known for going out of his way to help others. A huge support to his family and loved ones, he will be sorely missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

Survivors include his wife, Janis "Jan" Hill of Idaho Falls; son, Vance Robert (Cindy) Hill of Rigby, Idaho; daughters, Dayna (Dennis) McIntier of Idaho Falls and Heidi (Doug) McGary of Idaho Falls; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, Brent Jay Hill of Idaho Falls and Warren David Hill of Idaho Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack LeRoy Hill and Gary Dean Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Idaho Falls LDS Mountain View Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Bishop Michael Hays officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.

I am saddened to hear of Bob's passing. When we were in high school Bob was one of those people who I considered a friend. He was always positive and a plesant person to be around.
