Ruth Wickham Burnside, 87, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed peacefully and with dignity into God's arms Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Ruth is at peace in Heaven, once again reunited with her mother, Edith, her father, Walter, and her family who have been waiting for her to come home.
Ruth was born Feb. 16, 1927, in Rexburg, to Walter Bryant Wickham and Edith Leoan Wickham. She grew up in Moody, Idaho, and attended schools in Sugar City, where she graduated as valedictorian from Sugar-Salem High School.
On Aug. 14, 1945, Ruth married her lifelong love and companion of nearly 70 years, Lloyd Vernon Burnside, in Dillon, Mont. Together as a team, they met life head-on and shared a wonderful life filled with family, travel and joy. They have touched many lives with their kindness, generosity and examples of unconditional love.
Ruth and Lloyd made their home in Idaho Falls, where Ruth was a wife, mother and homemaker. She also worked through the years as a secretary, senior tax consultant for H&R Block for 25 years, waitress and receptionist.
Ruth enjoyed quilting, reading, stamp collecting, gardening and cooking. Her most important contribution being that of mother, a wife, a grandmother and the matriarch of her family.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of nearly 70 years, Lloyd Vernon Burnside of Idaho Falls; sons, Robert Lloyd Burnside of Idaho Falls, Randy Vernon (Kris) Burnside of Idaho Falls and Walter Scott (Debbie K.) Burnside of Twin Falls; daughter, Penny Sue (Joseph) Standley of Idaho Falls; brothers, Lynn (Jean) Wickham of Idaho Falls and Richard Wickham of Idaho Falls; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Dean Wickham and Bert Wickham.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., with her son, Walter Scott Burnside, officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
