Susan Roessler Obituary

Susan Lynn (Flavel) Roessler, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of her husband, Ernie, at her side.

Born on January 24, 1953, to William Elias Flavel and Mary Elizabeth (Powell) Flavel, Susan grew up on a small farm in Richfield, Idaho, alongside her older siblings, Melvin Robert (Bob) and twins James Ray and Janet Kay (Hiatt). In 1965, the family relocated to Shoshone, Idaho, where her father worked for the Idaho State Highway Department and her mother taught elementary school. Susan became a proud member of the Shoshone High School drill team, serving as its captain, and spent countless hours with her best friend, Denise Stutzman (Dailey). She graduated from Shoshone High School in 1971.

After high school, Susan attended Boise State University, Idaho State University, and the College of Southern Idaho, where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. It was during her college years that she began dating the love of her life, Ernest Roessler, also from Shoshone. The couple married on June 2, 1973, and began their life together in Shoshone. Their first child, Nikki Sue, was born there before the family moved to Idaho Falls, where they welcomed two more children, Brianne and Jacob (Jake).

For over 30 years, Susan dedicated her life to her work as a registered nurse at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC), primarily in post-surgery care. She was deeply committed to her job and to her coworkers, forming lasting friendships along the way. Her nurturing spirit and dedication to her family, friends & patients were central to her character. In 2023, Susan and Ernie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Susan had a wide range of interests, from camping and fishing to trips to Alaska. She was a talented painter and a gifted crafter, always creating something special. She also had a keen eye for a good garage sale! Known for her selfless acts of service, Susan lived a life devoted to caring for others. Her greatest joy was found in putting others before herself, and she was happiest when she could help those around her.

Susan is reunited with her parents, Ernie's parents, and many dear friends and family members in sweet and peaceful reunion - She leaves behind her devoted husband, Ernie, her three beloved children, Nikki Stone (Brandon), Brianne Bierma, Jake Roessler (Shandra), ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren-with two more on the way-her sister, Janet Hiatt, her brother, Mel Flavel (Ellen), and countless others who will carry her memory in their hearts until they are joined with her again.

A viewing will be held at Demaray Funeral Home in Shoshone, ID, at 11 a.m., with services following at 12:00 p.m. Graveside services will take place afterward at the Richfield Cemetery in Richfield, Idaho. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com

Susan and I met in the 7th grade when she moved to Shoshone and we quickly became friends.
We spent countless hours together. I was always staying at there house as I lived in the country.
We were in track and drill team together.
In home-ec our senior year we sewed matching wool suits and match suits for my 2 year old nephew and a little boy she babysat for after school
We models in a fashion show. We were a real fashion statement.
Even though we didn't stay as close as we should have in later years due to children and careers, I well always considered her my best friend who i loved alot and will always miss her.
