Ann H. Lyons
September 16, 2025
EASTON, N.Y. - On September 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family, Ann Elizabeth Hanson Lyons passed away at the age of 90.
Ann was born in Staten Island, N.Y., the daughter of Arthur and Helen (Burdick) Hanson. In 1944, her family relocated to her grandparents' farm in Easton, N.Y., a community that would become both her home and the heart of her life story.
A 1953 graduate of Greenwich Central School, Ann later attended the Austin School of Cosmetology in Albany. She worked in Troy until 1955, when she married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Lyons, at Centenary United Methodist Church in Greenwich. They built a home in Easton and spent nearly 70 years creating a life centered around family and community.
Throughout her life, Ann gave generously of her time. She was a Sunday School teacher, 4-H leader, Girl Scout "cookie mom," a member of the Easton-Greenwich Rescue Squad, and a tireless supporter of her children's many school, music, and athletic activities. She worked as a clerical aide at GCS for 13 years, retiring in 1998.
Ann blended country wisdom with a forward-looking spirit, embracing the internet before it reached most homes. She claimed it was just to keep tabs on her children by email, but it also elevated her L.L. Bean shopping game long before "online shopping" was a household phrase. She poured her creativity into quilting, a pastime she loved as much for the craft as the friendships it brought.
In later years, she and Bob were known for "keeping an eye on things" from their driveway, watching neighbors come and go, the Skiffs' cattle grazing across the road, and finding any excuse to wave, chat, and stay connected with the community they loved. Ann took quiet joy, in the life she and Bob built, their home, their family, and the close-knit community of which they were proud to be a part.
She is survived by her children, Gregory Lyons, Sharon Wood (Scott), Janine Smith, and Andrea Lyons; her grandchildren, Marcus Wood (Cassie), Thomas Wood (Emilee), Tad Smith (Alexandra), and Brieanna Smith; her great-grandchildren, Kylee, Carlisle, Colton, Avery, Logan, and Izabel; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her husband, who passed in 2024, Ann was predeceased by her parents; her siblings, David Hanson and Jane Harvey; her daughter-in-law, Terri Scanlon; and her grandson, Benjamin Smith.
Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the friends and staff at the Washington Center Adult Day Care and Country Meadows for their loving and capable care. Donations in her memory may be made to the Easton-Greenwich Rescue Squad, 441 State Route 29, Greenwich, NY 12834.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Flynn Bros, Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St, Greenwich, NY, 12834. Her memorial service will follow at 6 p.m.
Interment for both Ann and her late husband Robert "Bob" Lyons will be held at 11 a.m. the following day, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in the Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY, 12871. A reception for family and friends will follow at Wallie's restaurant in Greenwich.
