Anthony Pacyna, Jr.
April 11, 1934 - May 13, 2024
POULTNEY - Anthony "Tony" Frank Pacyna, Jr. passed away peacefully Monday, May 13, 2024 at the age of 90.
Born April 11, 1934 in South Poultney, known as the Bush. Tony was the son of Anthony and Anna (Susalka) Pacyna, the third child of six.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Josephine Pacyna (Poultney) and two brothers: Andrew Pacyna (Hudson Falls) and John Pacyna (Poultney). Tony is survived by two sisters: Doris Hicks of Scotia, NY and Patricia Reeves of Mt. Juliet, TN; along with many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
Tony graduated from Poultney High School in 1952, then joined the Army on December 16, 1952. He spent two years active duty as a Radio Operator and Telegrapher and another six years in the reserves. He joined the American Legion and was a member in good standings for sixty years, thirty of them in the Color Guard Rifle detail
Tony learned the carpenter trade from Carmen DeBonis and then went to work for Telescope Casual Furniture in Granville, NY. He retired from Telescope after thirty-one years.
Living in Poultney his entire life, he was a member of Saint Raphaels Catholic Church. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, but his favorite sport was snowmobiling, which he did up to the age of eighty-one.
Tony could be found happily working in his wood shop. Family, friends and on occasion people he did not know would drop off tables, chairs, dressers or anything made of wood for him to repair. If it was not repairable, he would make a new one. A variety of wooden keepsakes has left his shop, but he is most known for his custom deer antler plaques. His passion for making things with wood and his big heart justified only accepting a hand shake and a thank you for his work.
Tony leaves behind a group of loyal friends that visited weekly in his wood shop, enjoying snacks, drinks, and telling stories - along with solving the world's problems. He will be greatly missed.
At his request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at St. Raphaels Catholic Church, 21 East Main Street in Poultney June 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
Condolences may be sent directly to Durfee Funeral Home, 119 West Main Street, Fair Haven, VT - durfeefuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Poultney Rescue Squad, 193 Ideal Way, Poultney, VT 05764.
