Brent Edwards Obituary

Brent W. Edwards

Jan. 11, 1967 - Sept. 16, 2023

HEBRON – Brent W. Edwards, 56, of Hebron, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

Born on January 11, 1967, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Helen (Porteous) Edwards and the late John Edwards.

Brent attended Fort Ann Central School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1986 and served aboard the USS LUCE (DDG-38) as Machinist's Mate 3rd Class until 1990. Brent continued to serve his country as a Naval Reservist until March 1994.

On June 28, 2008, he married the love of his life, Sarah Dubay surrounded by family and friends at their home.

Brent worked for General Electric, the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) as a Direct Care Professional, and for New York State Corrections in the Transportation and Maintenance Departments.

He was an avid hockey fan and was a season ticket holder for the Adirondack Thunder and loved the New York Rangers.

Brent also loved animals and they loved him. He enjoyed going to the bird sanctuary at Busch Gardens in Florida, where the birds would immediately flock to him. He was also known as a big flirt. Brent had a huge heart. He was always helping people and never asking for anything in return. Not only did Brent love his immediate family and friends, but he also loved his hockey and work families.

In addition to his father, Brent was predeceased by his grandparents, Rita and Roy Porteous.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Sarah Edwards; his daughters: Alyson Edwards (Jeremiah Cook), Hannah Dubay (Rain Rummel); his granddaughter, Phoenix Cook; his mother, Helen "Honey" Edwards; his sister, Colleen (David) Allen; his brother, Dan (Karen) O'Keefe; his mother and father-in-law, Roy and Dorothy "Dottie" Dubay; his sister-in-law, Jesse Dubay-Hensler (Joseph); his brothers-in-law: Jason (Amy) Dubay and Josh Dubay; his aunt, uncles, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Brent is also survived by his longtime best friend, Shawn Bruce; his hockey wife, Billie Jo Haskell; and his "little buddy", Lloyd Perrino.

Calling hours will be on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday September 23, 2023, at Brown's Cemetery in Fort Ann.

To Sarah, Alyson and all those impacted, I share your pain and sense of loss. May the memories of Brent as a vibrant and kind person bring you comfort. He could have a larger than life personality at times, but was also very thoughtful and aware. In short, the kind of friend that anyone would want to have.

People who knew me when my son was in his formative years, AND who supported hockey in the North Country during my tenure, have a special place in my heart. Brent was a part of that loyal group of people whom I will always remember fondly, and you all understand how special and important those bonds have been in our lives.

Brent was a throw-back to the days when a handshake and looking someone in the eye stood for something. He cared, and it mattered. I am so sorry that he´s gone...
