Carol Gladys LaPoint
December 25, 1935 - August 3, 2025
QUEENSBURY - Carol Gladys LaPoint, 89, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home in Fort Edward.
Born on December 25, 1935, in Fenimore, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Smith) Garvin.
Carol was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School, class of 1953. She helped paint the Bulldog on the old gym floor. She was very artistic and lived an incredible full life. There wasn't anything she couldn't do or at least try to do.
On August 6, 1955, Carol married the love of her life, Edward G. LaPoint at St. Mary's Church in Hudson Falls. They spent over 60 yrs married until Ed passed on December of 2018. They lived in a few places, Maine while Ed was in the military, Hudson Falls, South Glens Falls where their children grew up, Thompson Lake State campground in the town of East Berne, while Ed was the caretaker. They lived there until retirement and then moved to Queensbury. She loved her family most. Always family first.
She drove school bus for the South Glens Falls School district while her boys were young and later went to Voorheesville School district to become head of transportation. While at Voorheesville what she was most proud of was her time hosting the foreign exchange program adult chaperones from St. Petersburg and later went on to be a chaperone herself in St. Petersburg. She loved to tell her story and how she went by herself. After she retired from Voorheesville, she then went on to work at Fort Hudson Nursing Center scheduling the staff and medical appointments and retired from there in 2012. She made such an impression on all those that worked there, that when she was admitted a year and a half ago with Dementia, they would come visit with her and let us family know just how special she was and that they had the most respect for her and took very good care of her.
Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by her sons, Edward K. and David; her sister, Kay Dragon; and brother, Jimmy Garvin. Her most beloved dog, Mesa; and cat, Pippa.
She is survived by her youngest son, John D. LaPoint and wife, Carol. Her grandchildren, Erin, Samuel and wife, Taylor, Logan and wife, Maddie. Her great-grandchildren, Satine, William, Winston, Lachlan, London, Fox and Lucy. Her daughter-in-law, Jan (Legault) LaPoint; brother-in-law, Mike LaPoint and wife, Eliza; her sister-in-law, Charlotte LaPoint; and several nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank Julie Dresser, Crystal Reed and Rose Parker and the "Team" for the care and kindness they gave her and Ed at home for so many years which continued at the nursing home. To all the Staff at Fort Hudson G wing and A wing. To all that visited with her while she was there and shared stories of our mom. To Dr Gara, Ruth Fish and staff for the long term of her care. We are utmost grateful for all the friends that stuck by us through these most difficult years.
She is now at peace and happy to be reunited with her loving family.
