Charles Welch Obituary

Charles T. Welch

July 28, 1946 - July 12, 2025

Charles T. Welch, 78, of Rollman Circle, passed away Saturday morning, July 12, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family following a long illness.

Born on July 28, 1946, in Beacon, he was the son of the late Robert and Agnes (Welch) Moore. He was raised in Hopewell Junction and attended Roy C. Ketcham High School, where he participated in baseball, soccer, wrestling, and boxing in Dutchess County.

Charlie chose to leave high school and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on September 11, 1964. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, Charlie worked for the New York State Narcotics Addiction Control Commission. He later settled in Tarrytown, where he was an active member of the Tarrytown Fire Department (Washington Engine Company) and a member of the Tarrytown Ambulance Corps.

After marrying his loving wife, Eileen, they moved to Hudson Falls with their two children, Joshua and Jessica. The family made Hadley their home in 2004. Charlie worked for 20 years for the New York State Department of Correctional Services, retiring as a sergeant from Mt. McGregor Correctional Facility.

Charlie was an avid reader. He had a tremendous sense of humor and was known to be quite a prankster. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings: Mary Ferland, Cindy Kyriazis, John Welch, and Thomas Welch.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen Welch; their children: Joshua (Suzanne) Welch of Waterford and Jessica (Brian) Winslow of Hadley; his cherished grandchildren: Angelina, Jared, Julia, Hayden, Charlie, and Gabriel; several nieces and nephews; and the beloved family dogs, Greta and Millie.

Friends may call on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Holy Mother and Child Parish, Corinth.

I just happened to hear from my mother who moved out of state of Charlie's recent death. I am compelled to express my condolences to his wife, Eileen, children Joshua and Jessica, along with his family and (obviously) extensive circle of friends. I knew Charlie from his days spent at Bobby's bar Reflections. At the time I was going to nursing school for my RN (which he would have been proud to know I recieved). I knew he was a CO in a local prison but he never stated which one. Charlie was a nonstop entertainer; he lit the room when he arrived. It reminded me of when Norm would walk into Cheers every time he came in. It was near impossible to continue to have a bad day when he was around. I was not many years past 21 and only went there because my mom did, but he always treated me as just another one of the adults. Somehow he always made me feel like family too. He never stayed long; one or maybe two drinks along with some of the best entertainment you could get free or otherwise, before he was off to home. There was never a question that his loyalty was to his wife and family. Later in my career I worked in a local correctional facility; something I never thought I could have in common with him. I always thought of him fondly, and would have loved to have been able to tell him how confident a nurse I had become. I won't lie... it would have been a trip to see his face after telling him the meek girl he once knew had worked in the same type of environment as he. I was amazed to see the accomplishments and selfless ways he gave back to the community in his life. He never bragged about any of it; you may only hear a hint of something if it was a part of one of his outlandish, but true stories. I haven't seen him in over 25 years, but he was the kind of person that just sticks with you. He was definitely one of the good ones who is surely missed by many.
