Daniel E. McGarr
August 30, 1964 - December 6, 2025
QUEENSBURY - Daniel E. McGarr, 61, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Glens Falls Hospital with his family at his side.
Born on August 30, 1964, in Cooperstown, N.Y., he was the son of Alvira (Harrington) McGarr of Queensbury and the late Michael McGarr, Sr.
He attended Cooperstown Central School, graduating with the class of 1982. Upon graduating, he was proud to join the US Navy, serving from March 1983 to February 1987, being honorably discharged as a Second-Class Petty Officer (E-5). During his service, he received a Good Conduct Medal, a Sea Service Ribbon, visited 27 countries and sailed around the world one and half times.
Dan retired from New York State Department of Corrections on September 30, 2020 after 26.5 years of service. Throughout his career, Dan worked at various prisons including Coxsackie, Bedford Hills, Sing Sing, and Great Meadow before finishing out his career as Sergeant at Washington Correctional Facility. Prior to corrections, Dan was an auto tech at Quaker Ford (Nemer) for many years.
He loved to ride motorcycles and travel around the U.S. Dan enjoyed working on cars and going to the gun range. He was the type of person who helped everyone who needed it but his greatest joy in life was his family.
Dan was larger than life and his smile always lit up a room. You couldn't feel sad when he was around. He lived life to the fullest and loved his family and friends beyond words, Dan will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
In addition to his father, he is predeceased by his brothers, Michael McGarr, Jr. and Sean McGarr.
Survivors include his partner, Rebekah McMillan; his sons, Ryan McGarr and Daniel P. McGarr; his mother, Alvira (Harrington) McGarr all of Queensbury. He is also survived by his nephew, Brendan McGarr; his niece, Marie (McGarr) Rapisarda (Nick); his sister-in-law, Rose McGarr all of New Jersey; his aunt, Sharon Walden and uncle, Fred Walden both of Glens Falls along with various cousins; extended family and many friends.
Calling hours will be from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday December 17, 2025, at the Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home at 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury, with a funeral service that will take place at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life for Dan will be at the B.P.O.E. Lodge 81, 32 Cronin Road, Queensbury, immediately following the service.
Burial will be held in the spring at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
