David Hobby Bullard II
CEDAR FALLS, IA - David Hobby Bullard II, 84, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls, Iowa after a long illness.
Born in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Fitch and Ruth Bullard. He graduated in 1957 from Glens Falls High School. He married Janice Maille on January 2, 1963.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, attending the U.S. Navy Music School and subsequently playing woodwinds in an Army field band stationed in Korea.
After returning from military service, he attended Skidmore College, graduating in 1975 with a degree in English.
David retired after working for several years as a Regional Sales Representative for Wolverine Brass, but his true love was music; he studied flute, clarinet, and saxophone throughout his life, was a proud member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 14 (Albany), played with a number of jazz groups and for many Glens Falls Community Theater musical productions, sang in the choir at the Village Baptist Church in Fort Edward, NY (where his wife Jan was the organist and Choir Director for 60 years), and was Artistic Director of the DeBlasiis Chamber Music Series for several years.
After moving to Iowa to be closer to his daughters, he enjoyed playing the occasional big band gig and attending many concerts at UNI and in the Cedar Valley community.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife Janice (Maille) Bullard; his beloved uncle, George Sauter; and aunt, Julia Isabel Sauter; his sister, Phyllis Bullard Rateau and brother-in-law, George Rateau; and brother-in-law, Michael Winn. He is survived by his daughters: Julia Bullard and Suzanne Bullard (Timothy Purdum); a grandson, Elliot Purdum; a sister, Caroline Winn; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Cremation and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made in David's name to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

Dave was an important part of the Village Baptist Church choir for many years. His tenor voice and flute playing was nice to hear! Rest in peace, my friend...
