David Moffitt Obituary

CHESTERTOWN David R. Moffitt, 58, of Chestertown, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born on Feb. 1, 1950, at the Glens Falls Hospital, he was the son of the late Elwin (Jude), and Rosetta (Hill) Moffitt. David graduated from Chestertown Central School in 1969 and attended Albany Business College for his degree in accounting. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1974. David married Cindy Hill on March 5, 1977, and had four children. He was employed at North Creek Woodworking and then for a while he was self-employed as a logger. He then went to work at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing as the general storeroom manager, eventually becoming beverage manager where he was responsible for purchasing the wine and liquor served at the resort. He retired from the Sagamore after 17 years of service. He loved camping and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends singing colorful limericks at the Rising House and the Panther Mountain House in Chestertown. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Louisa. He was also predeceased by sisters: Elizabeth Belden, Ethel Hayes, Wilma Eldridge, and June Potter. Survivors include his wife, Cindy, and his three children: Cindy Sue Moffitt and her companion, Brian Harvey and her son, Tyler Moffitt; Elizabeth Mary Wallace and her companion, Chris Lewis, and her children, Destiny and Thomas Wallace; His son, David R. Moffitt II and his companion, Kristen Venosa, all of Chestertown. Dave is also survived by his brothers: Clifford Belden and his wife, Myrna, of Warrensburg; Harold Moffitt and his wife, Susan, of Warrensburg; George Moffitt and his wife, Arlene, of Bolton; and his sister, Alice Prosser. Also his special nephew, George R. "Tiny" Moffitt of Bolton; his mother-in-law, Almeda Hill of Chestertown; along with several nieces and nephews, including his special cousin, Arthur Moffitt. Family and friends may call on David's family on Wednesday, April 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Herrmann officiating. Burial will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family in Darrowsville Cemetery. A celebration of David's life will be held at his favorite hangout, The "P" House on Riverside Drive, Chestertown following the service.
