David Myers Obituary

David D. Myers

QUEENSBURY - David D. Myers, 84 years, passed away peacefully to meet his Heavenly Father with his wife and daughter by his side on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at the Warren Center in Queensbury. He was the husband of Joy Sue Myers. They shared 65 years of marriage - wow! That doesn't happen much these days!

David was born in Middletown, OH and was the son of Herbert and Marguerite Myers along with his 2 brothers and 1 sister, all pre-deceased. He started his professional career at Miami University bookstore in Oxford Ohio. He then spent a number of years working with Follett's Book Company as Assistant Manager and then College Textbook Salesman; a position that moved him to Glens Falls, NY. Later in life he became a General Contractor.

David met his high school sweetheart, Joy at McGuffey high school in Oxford Ohio. They later married at Bath Methodist Church in Bath, Indiana. Throughout his married life with Joy, they made a few moves from the mid-west until finally ending up in Glens Falls, NY where they continued raising their family and have enjoyed the area and their many friends ever since.

David is survived by his wife, Joy (Harvey) Myers of South Glens Falls and their four children: Cheryl Bolduc and husband, Marcel of Hornell, NY, Cindee Battiste and husband, Fred of Allen, TX, David Myers and wife, Maria of Denver, CO, and Tony Myers and wife, Michelle of Utica, NY. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He attended Kingsway worship center. Throughout his life, David served as a Deacon, Elder and Lay Speaker, speaking at various Churches. He was also President of Full Gospel Businessmen's Assoc. David was a Believer with a warm personality. He was a very compassionate man. He was always the calm one in difficult situations and sat with you just to be there if you needed to talk. If you were questioning something or struggling in your Faith, he would listen to you, and in his calm quiet voice he would give words of comfort, then lay his hands on you and pray for you. He went through many difficult times in his life, making it his mission to be there to comfort and pray for others with intensity and sincerity. He was also a lovingly comical man. He was the quiet one in the room, that would come out with a dry comment without ever changing his voice or manner and that made everyone laugh! He will be truly missed.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 6, 2020 from 4:00–6:00 pm at Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Rd. Queensbury, NY 12804.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 4 p.m. at Kingsway Worship Center, 235 Green Barn Road, Hudson Falls, NY 12839. To visit the Celebration of Life via Zoom, please use meeting number: 408 385 2443.

Let me tell you of a legacy:
In the 70's Dave and Joy built a large addition on to their ranch home so that gatherings of people could eat and worship together. My mom would tell me dinner was not at home, if I wanted to eat dinner it was at Myers.
I would arrive to a gathering of 30+ people all laughing and carrying on - in my mind - crazy Christians. After the meal they would gather and Joy would play the organ and everyone would worship.
I met Bill and Jean Davidson there and was impressed with how they seemed to walk the talk of a Christian. The people who would attend these gatherings ended up forming Mountaiside Christian Fellowship now known as Church of the Nations in Hadley and additionally later the Church of the King in Queensbury.
Years passed, my life changed. I joined the Mountainside church and the Davidson's invited me to tutor their children, Kellie and Criag, and then to be part of the being-created Mountainside Christian School which now some 35 + years later is called The Kings School.
I left the school when attendance was at 103 students to be married.
Dave's Celebration of Life service was led beautifully by Pastor Jason LaPierre at Kingsway Worship Center in Hudson Falls.
After the service people were invited - as Joy continued in her mode of excellent hospitality - back to her small senior citizen home where there was ample home-made food for family and close friends. At that gathering Pastor LaPierre and I met and he told me that he graduated from the Kings School! He had begun there the first year after I left.

I am so grateful to David for the literally hundreds of hours he spent witnessing to my dad. He was a true loving friend. He helped build the deck on my parents house after my dad had a stroke.
His carpentry, hospitality, persistence in witnessing - all seemingly small in themselves - carried such Heavenly Power as the effects of those things rippled through lives and years.
