Donald R. Atkinson
Sept. 1, 1956 - May 4, 2021
LAKE GEORGE – Donald R. Atkinson, a longtime resident of Hudson Falls, went into the arms of the Lord on May 4, 2021, at the age of 64.
Born September 1, 1956, he was the son of the Edna (Atkinson) Alexander of Hudson and the late Ronald Atkinson of Standish.
Upon graduating from Saranac Central School, Donald worked construction for the Local 186 in Plattsburgh and the Local 157 in Schenectady. He was a gifted painter and handyman.
He enjoyed fishing at Halfway Brook in Queensbury, frequenting garage sales and taking long car rides to visit friends and family. Donald spent his summers spending time with friends in the Adirondacks and could usually be found at the Saratoga Race Course placing a bet or two.
Donald had a huge heart. He was known for helping animals and being first to lend assistance to anyone in need. Donald had a great talent for fixing cars. He was always there with a wrench to get family and friends back on the road. His humor, kindness, loyalty and friendly personality will be missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his son, Donald Atkinson, Jr., his grandparents, William and Margaret Donohue and his sister, Deborah White.
Left to cherish his memory include his sons: Mathew Atkinson and his significant other, Casey Hall of Lake George, Jacob Atkinson of Plattsburgh and Ryan Atkinson of SC; his four beautiful granddaughters; his siblings: Ronald Atkinson, Wendy Atkinson, Danny Atkinson, Randy Atkinson and Michael Atkinson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services for Donald will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Donald's memory may be sent to the Northshore Animal League, 115 Maple Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
