Doris L. (Sherman) Burns

Doris L. Burns (Sherman) 93, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, at Fort Hudson Nursing Center (Memory Care – S wing) in Fort Edward, N.Y. Doris was formerly a resident of Peregrine Senior Living Memory Care in Clifton Park, N.Y. Doris lived in Oakland, NJ with her husband and children before retiring into the neighborhood of Surrey Fields in Queensbury, N.Y.

Doris is predeceased by her husband, 63 years, Rodney L. Burns of Queensbury, N.Y. She is also predeceased by her parents: Wesley R. Sherman and Wilma C. (Morrison) Sherman of Bogota, NJ and her beloved brother, William Sherman of Dumont, NJ and grandson, Justin Coghlan of Hackettstown, NJ.

Doris is survived by her children, Debbie (Burns) Hart of West Rutland, Vt., Bonnie (Burns) Jones and her husband, Randall of Queensbury, N.Y., Cindy Burns of Parsippany, NJ, and Michael Burns of Glens Falls, N.Y. She is also survived by her loving sister, Jean (Sherman) Nelson and her husband, Paul of New Hill, N.C. Doris has 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Doris was born in Teaneck, NJ and spent most of her life in NJ, she graduated from Bogota High School in 1950. Doris began her banking career as a teller and worked in many positions for banks of N.Y. & NJ. She served behind the scenes as the supervisor of the Bookkeeping and Transit Dept. She worked at Urban National Bank in Wykoff, NJ as an administrative assistant until retirement.

Doris and Rodney both loved boating and camping. They spent many summers in Greenwood Lake, NJ and Lake George, N.Y. Doris' other loves included Maine-coon Cats, Riding in Rodney's Harley Motorcycle sidecar thru New England (especially VT), water skiing, swimming, NY Yankees, and NY Giants. Doris will always be remembered for her special name "Doris Day" and her favorite phrases "Meany Meany Jelly Beanie" when she did not like something and "on my way" after every comment.

Doris' family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff, residents, and hospice teams at Peregrine Senior Living Memory Care in Clifton Park, N.Y. and Fort Hudson Nursing Center (Memory Care – S wing) in Fort Edward, N.Y. Your patience, experience, professionalism, willingness to listen and help and most of all your love and caring attitudes are more than words on paper can express. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. You will always be remembered and loved! "On my way"

At Doris' request there will be no calling hours. A private burial will be held at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Commentary, Schuylerville, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages contributions in Doris' name be directed to the American Cancer Society and/or Alzheimer's Association.
