Douglas Duffy Obituary

WILTON Douglas W. Duffy, 75, of Northern Pines Road, Wilton and formerly of Minerva, passed away at his home Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, after a long illness. Born on June 7, 1932, in Enosburg Falls, Vt., he was the eldest son of the late Walter and Hilda (Longe) Duffy. A graduate of Enosburg Falls High School, Doug married Shirley Austin of Bakersfield, Vt., in 1953. He served as a member of the Vermont National Guard. Doug and Shirley moved to Tahawas, N.Y., in 1956, where Doug began his 33-year career as a boiler operator at National Lead Industries. In 1963, they moved their family to Minerva where they remained until their retirement when they moved to Wilton. He enjoyed clipping coupons, grocery shopping, playing the lottery, cooking, driving back roads and, above all, spending time with his family. Besides his parents, his two best friends, Benji, his Silkie Terrier, and Colleen, his Pekinese, predeceased Doug. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Shirley Duffy of Wilton; four daughters: Donna DeLor (Daniel) of Ozark, Ark., Darlene Duffy (John Williams) of Olmstedville, Ann Hayden (Patrick) of Queensbury, and Marcella Gros of Queensbury; two brothers, Lloyd Duffy (Dale) of Sheldon, Vt., and Robert Duffy (Sally) of Berkshire, Vt.; nine grandchildren: Fred, Andy and Angela Barilli, Jason and Caroline Kelly, Theresa Fish and Ben, Christine, and Eric Palmer; eight great-grandchildren; also several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. At Doug's request, there will be no calling hours or formal service. Services will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions, in loving memory of Doug, may be made to The Community Hospice of Saratoga Wish Fund, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Condolences may be e-mailed through www.bakerfuneral home.com or mailed to Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
