Idris L. "Edie" Roberts

GLENS FALLS -- Idris L. "Edie" Roberts, 72, of Mason Street, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 20, 2007, after a long illness.

Born on Dec. 4, 1934, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Morris and Celia (Dunlap) Roberts.

After Edie's graduation from Glens Falls High School, he went to work for Imperial Color, later know as Hercules, Inc., and then Ciba Geigy, Inc., formerly in Queensbury. For over 30 years, Edie was employed as a color technician.

The central part of his life was his involvement in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Glens Falls Lodge No. 81. After being initiated on March 25, 1979, he served on many committees. From 1985 to 1986, Edie was the Exalted Ruler. For almost all the years that he was a member, he was very active in the Elks Youth Hoop Shoot Program.

Edie played the French horn for the Vagabonds Drum Corp and taught horn to the Jr. Drum Corp in Stillwater and Schaghticoke, for many years.

When his son was younger, he was involved in the Glens Falls Little League and at one time, served as president.

Anything that Edie was involved in, he gave his total commitment. He was a hard working and outgoing man, who loved his family. Edie was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Patricia (Daniels) Roberts, who passed away on Sept. 4, 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Roberts of Glens Falls; his two children, Leonard Roberts and his wife, Paula, of Glens Falls and Wendy Hera and her husband, Ray, of Clifton Park; his three grandchildren, Chris Roberts and Timothy Roberts, both of Glens Falls and Rhianna Hera of Clifton Park.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2007, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Glens Falls Lodge No. 81 will conduct A Lodge of Sorrow at 7 p.m. on Monday evening.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the funeral home with Deacon William Bazinet of St. Alphonsus Church in Glens Falls, officiating.

Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
