James Farrar Obituary

WARRENSBURG -- James Alfred Farrar, 59, of Farrar Road, Lake George, (North Caldwell), passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, Thursday, June 23, 2005, at Dartmouth- Hitchcock Hospital Medical Center, in Lebanon, N.H., with his wife and children at his side.

Jim was born Sept. 20, 1945, in Glens Falls Hospital, the second child of James Stewart and Mary Elizabeth (Guiles) Farrar. Jim was a lifelong resident of North Caldwell and a direct descendant of Josiah and Abigail (Chatfield) Woodward, who were the seventh family to settle in Warrensburg in 1878.

He was a forester with Adirondack Forestry, Inc., eventually buying the company with his partner, Garry Nelson. They later sold the business to Fountain Forestry, for which they both worked.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg. He was a member of and the first president of the Upper Hudson Maple Producers Association. Along with his brother John, Jim operated Farrar's Maple Products, making maple syrup on the family sugarbush which they started doing with their father over 40 years ago.

Jim was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed the simple pleasure of walking in the woods and observing the natural beauty of the Adirondacks.

He married Nancy Diane Tucker Aug. 12, 1969.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his daughter, Kelly D. Farrar and her husband, Jason G. Lee, and grandson, Nathan G. Lee of Rochester; his son, James S. Farrar II and his wife, Megan of Malta; his sister, Sarah M. Farrar of North Caldwell, hid brother, Stewart S. Farrar and his wife, Judith of Richmond, Ky., and his brother, John C. Guiles and his wife, Audrey, of Lake George; his aunt, S. June Tyrrell of Bruswick; his aunt, Mary Miles of Frederick, Md.; his uncle, Paul A. Farrar and his wife, Sally, of South Burlington, Vt.; and his aunt, Barbara F. Moore and her husband, Walter of League City, Texas; 13 cousins, and nine nieces and nephews.

God looked around his Garden and found an empty place.

He then looked down upon his earth and saw your loving face.

He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.

His Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain.

And knew that you would never get well on earth again.

He saw your path was difficult, he closed your tired eyes, He whispered to you "Peace be thine" and gave you wings to fly.

When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain, We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.

You've left us precious memories, your love will be our guide, you live on through your family and friends, you're always by our side.

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone.

For part of us went with you, on the day God called you home.

Jim you are going to be greatly missed. To us, you represented everything good about the Adirondacks.

Nancy, we pray that you will be comforted by family and friends. We think of you often.
