February 13, 1941 - May 26, 2025
CHESTERTOWN - James Douglas Wilson, age 84, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025, at Glens Falls Center after a months-long struggle to return home to his wife and family.
Doug was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on February 13, 1941, a son of the late James and Sarah (Morrison) Wilson. He grew up there and began his studies at Buffalo State College, where he earned a master's degree in education.
Doug was, above all, a teacher who began his career in Buffalo before moving to Warsaw, N.Y., and finally to Chestertown, N.Y., where he pursued his love of skiing and sailing as he taught art and photography to both junior and senior high school students at Lake George Central School. He was deeply involved in the lives of his two sons, David and Jeffrey, actively supporting their various interests and projects with patience and guidance, equipping them both with life skills and a can-do attitude that continues to benefit them as they pursue their own lives and careers. Doug was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and a perfectionist at wood turning.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara (Hansen) Wilson; and is forever cherished by their sons, David (Karen Morgan) and Jeffrey; as well as his grandchildren: Douglas, Jessica, Richard, and Ryan.

Mr. Wilson was such an inspiration to his students! I became an Art Teacher/Ceramics Teacher in San Diego and love it and often think of all the things he taught us! Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Wilson. Rest in peace

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bobbi and all Doug´s family. Doug always had a happy smile & a cheerful hello.. Thanks to both of them for the help & guidance they gave our son Scott as he pursued a career in the art field. He was a wonderful teacher.

So sad to see Mr. Wilson´s passing. Thought about him and his wife for many years. Had never been able to contact them. Amazing teachers, beautiful people who were quite an influence on me. World has lost a special man. I am so sorry.
