Janet Sutliff Obituary

Janet Sutliff

November 23, 1936 - August 19, 2025

HUDSON FALLS - Janet Sutliff passed away on August 19, 2025, peacefully at the home she loved, with family by her side. Janet was born to Isabelle and Delbert Havens, on November 23, 1936, across from her family home on Lower Oak Street in Hudson Falls. She enjoyed summers at her family camp in South Bay, Lake Champlain. As a teenager, she worked as a carhop at Pete and Winnie's restaurant. She met her future husband at a dance at the Lake Sunnyside pavilion, which was followed by many happy years of dancing through life.

She attended Hudson Falls High School. On August 8, 1954, she married Lawrence Sutliff at the Methodist Church in Hudson Falls. As a military wife, Janet traveled the world. She lived in Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, Kansas, North Carolina, Florida, California, Germany, and Virginia. After Larry retired from the military, they returned to their hometown, where they bought a lovely home on their family's former farm,

Janet had a love of history, fashion, and design. She completed an interior design degree, and in the 80s opened J.J. Interiors, a high-end antique store in Manchester, Vt. She worked in fashion at Magram's in Queensbury and at the Corner House in Fairfax, Va., where she honed her classic, sophisticated style.

Janet was very creative and enjoyed ceramics, painting with acrylics and oils, and tole painting.

She loved nature and was often found reading on her back porch overlooking the field or gardening in her front yard. She was a proud member of the Hudson Falls Red Hat Society along with her friends, Ruth Hogan, Betty Hogan; her cousin, Darlene Hogan, Marlene Santoro; her sister, Evelyn; and many others.

Always a great listener, Janet made her home a calm and happy place. She was an amazing mother and grandmother. She loved having her children and grandchildren around her. She was known for her great sense of humor, homemade apple pies, and amazing hugs.
