Jay Earl Obituary

LAKE GEORGE * Jay R. Earl Jr., 84, of Park Place, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born Oct. 14, 1922, in Gloversville, N.Y., he was the son of Jay R. Earl Sr. and Mildred (Foote) Earl.

Mr. Earl graduated from Lake George Union School and attended Green Mountain College in Vermont.

He was a World War II United States Navy veteran serving as a mechanic and navigator on PPY's.

Mr. Earl, his father and brother formed J.R. Earl & Sons Inc. of Lake George, running the garage and Ford dealership until 1977, when he retired.

He was a member of the Lake George Fire Department, Lake George American Legion Post 374, Masonic Lodge, Elks Club, Nescot Racing Association and was involved in midget and stock car racing.

Mr. Earl enjoyed playing golf, skiing, and was a horse racing fan.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jayne (Stone) Earl who died on June 24, 1994.

Survivors include two children, Jorja Halsted of Lake George and Jay S. Earl and his wife, Lisa, of Lake George; four grandchildren: Heather Halsted of Texas, Joshua Halsted of Warrensburg, Tarann Earl of England, and Travis Earl of Lake George; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Hope Halsted of Warrensburg; one brother, Wayde Earl and his wife, Peg, of Lake George; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, at Evergreen Cemetery, Birch Avenue, Lake George, with the Rev. Shirley A. Mosholder, pastor of Caldwell Presbyterian Church of Lake George, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the Lake George American Legion Post 374, Route 9L, Lake George, NY 12845 or to the Lake George Fire Department, Lake George, NY 12845.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stafford Funeral Home Inc. of Lake George.
