Jeremy Michael "Vern" Berney

Jeremy Berney Obituary

ALEXANDRIA, Ky. -- Jeremy "Vern" Michael Berney, 29, formerly of Cropseyville, died suddenly, Monday, July 24, 2006, after being stricken at his Alexandria, Ky., residence.

Born in Bangor, Maine, Oct. 27, 1976, Jeremy is the son of John and Delorres Berney of Cropseyville, and the devoted father of Brandon M. and Dylan T. Berney of Burlington, Ky., all who survive.

Jeremy was a 1995 graduate of Tamarac High School, where he enjoyed playing football and participated on the wrestling team.

Since 1998, Jeremy has made his home in both the Atlanta and Northern Kentucky areas. He had been employed as a grounds-crewman by Delta Airlines at several airports including Albany, Atlanta, and most recently the Cincinnati Airport.

In his quiet time, Jeremy loved to spend time with his two sons, Brandon and Dylan. Together they would go to Cincinnati Reds baseball games and had plans to visit the New York Giants football camp held at the University at Albany this summer. Jeremy enjoyed sports of all kinds, tinkering with anything mechanical and hangin' out with his many friends.

In addition to his parents and beloved sons, Jeremy is survived by his companion, Cara Perkins, of Alexandria, Ky., four sisters and brothers, beginning with his best friend, Kimberly (Richard) Berney-Ellison, of Brunswick, Michael W. DuBray of Glens Falls, Gena (Billy) Anderson of Schuylerville, Laura (Jim Wilson) Vadnais of Brunswick and Tammy DuBray of Hoboken, N.J.; his former wife, Jacqueline Berney, of Burlington, Ky; paternal grandparents, Shirley and Bob Hussey, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 31, at 10 a.m. at the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 2237 NY-7, located in Raymertown, with the Rev. Gaylord Campbell, officiating.

Burial will follow at Eagle Mills Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday, July 30, from 3 to 7 p.m.

At the request of the family, no flowers please, but rather a contribution may be mailed to the Jeremy Berney Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o SEFCU, 700 Patroon Creek Blvd., Albany, NY 12206 or by visiting any SEFCU branch in memory of Jeremy "Vern" M. Berney.

You'd think the more time that goes by the more reality would settle in but most days I find myself still in denial. I have inner happiness knowing you're not in pain anymore but I can't help but be selfish and want you here. I love and miss you.

I want to thank all of you for your entries. It is very comforting to see that so many people cared for Jeremy. On behalf of our family I know if you are writing here, he was part of your life as well. Don't stop remembering him. Let Jeremy's influence change your lives as he always did. He lives in all of us if you let him.

So many people have died way before their time. I'm am very sorry for your family's loss. Life without him won't get any easier, but still goes on. I miss you Jeremy, and I am sorry I didn't get to spend time with you over that last few years. Your boys are really handsome, it looks like the youngest is a little Vern, with his big goofy smile. See you later.
