John Augustus Dixon
December 31, 1938 - October 24, 2025
GANSEVOORT - John Augustus Dixon, 86, passed away Friday, October 24, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.
Born December 31, 1938, in Paterson, N.J., he was the son of the late John and Isabel (Marks) Dixon.
He graduated from South Glens Falls High School class of 1956. John was a member of the football team and high school drama club. He continued his education at SUNY Cobleskill for one year.
On November 19, 1961, John married the love of his life, Patricia Lambert, in Fair Haven, Vt. They were married for 51 years before her passing on July 9, 2013.
John proudly joined the United States Army in 1961 and was stationed in Germany until he was honorably discharged in 1963.
He worked for NIBCO, Baker Pools, Town of Moreau and eventually retired as the Superintendent of Village of South Glens Falls Public Works.
John was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church for many years.
He enjoyed hobby farming, free range chickens, selling the fresh eggs, maple syruping, cooking, hunting, fishing, his pets, country music and playing music with his wife Patti in their band Patti Dixon & the Real Thing. John's true passions were gardening and woodworking. He and his brother Don built a sawmill on his property in 1980 that still runs to this day.
In addition to his parents and wife, John was predeceased by his sister, Jean Etu; brother, Donald Dixon; nieces, Monique, Denais and Kelly; nephews, Matthew and William.
Left to cherish his memory include his children, Brian Dixon (Rosemary), Christine Collins (T. Burke), Candi Dixon and Jack Dixon (Rita); grandchildren, Michael Dixon (Jenna), Nina Long (Jackson), Joseph Dixon, Kyle Dixon and John Dixon; great grandchildren, Leona Dixon and Robert Dixon; brother, Kenny Dixon (Flossy); along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family may call from 4 to 6 p.m., on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main St., South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Church 80 Saratoga Ave, South Glens Falls, NY 12803 with Rev. Guy A. Childs, pastor, officiating.
Rite of committal will be private and at the convenience of the family.
