John Francisco Obituary

Brant Lake-John P. Francisco

August 18, 1957 - June 23, 2025

Brant Lake-John P. Francisco, 67, died unexpectedly Monday, June 23, 2025 due to a work-related accident.

Born on August 18, 1957 in Ticonderoga to Bruce & Barbara Francisco, he grew up in Brant Lake. He married his wife Kim on October 20, 1984, and they went on to have two sons, Greg and Scott.

John learned the painting trade from his father and worked on the road doing commercial painting jobs in the Northeast. Eventually he used his talents to start his own painting business. His work was appreciated by his many repeat customers and he took pride in admiring his work upon finishing a job.

John enjoyed hunting & fishing, trapping, camping, snowmobiling and traveling with his wife. For many years he and his friends built a hunting camp near Crab Pond; he knew the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness like the back of his hand. During his later years he joined Polaris Mountain Club in Newcomb until the Club's dissolution. He enjoyed large "bombfires", making his own maple syrup, a good Clint Eastwood western, the Beverly Hillbillies and other classic TV shows. Recently, he took up creative cooking and was practicing golf. John brought joy to many local families over the years, checking in on them during Christmas as Santa. He was a member of the Horicon Fire Department for 32 years, and in 2023 he decided to run for office and got elected to the Horicon Town Board. He will be remembered for his inventive storytelling and sense of humor.

John was predeceased by his parents, Bruce & Barbara; mother-in-law, Norma Montena; brother-in-law, Ed Sheridan; and niece, Sarah Francisco.

Survivors include his wife, Kim; sons, Greg (Kathleen) Francisco and Scott (Kaye) Francisco; grandson, Silas Francisco; siblings: Steve (Josie) Francisco, Barb (Jerry) LaFlure, Carol Sheridan, and Terry (Kevin) Sommerdyke; along with father-in-law, Gene Montena; brother-in-law's, Mike Montena and Jamie (Patti) Montena and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A gathering for John will be held at the Northern Warren Trailblazers Clubhouse on Knapp Hill Road, Chestertown, NY on Thursday, July 10, 2025. Calling hours will be from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM with services and a celebration of life immediately following.

Arrangements are entrusted to Barton-McDermott Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Pine St. Chestertown, NY 12817.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Johns passing. I knew most of my life. Both of my parents worked for his father at one time or another. John was a great friend and a caring person who was always there when some one was in need. John was in the fire department during the same same time I was.
His dedication and commitment was unmatched

My deepest condolences to Kim, Scott, and Greg in this time of loss. I will always remember John as the caring person he was. My prayers will be with you all at this time of loss.

Johnny was a wonderful nephew and lots of fun. Had a wonderful dinner with some of the nieces and nephews a couple of months ago when I was up North. How delighted Johnny was to see every one. It was a wonderful last memory of Johnny. My condolences to Kim, Scott and Greg.

Oh, the many years working for Bruce and having John call from "Shirley Williams" (Sherwin Williams) looking for the paint order.
He was indeed a character with lots of stories to tell. He'll be missed by many. Condolences to Kim and the boys.

When my kids were little, Ralph would dress up in a Santa suit on Christmas Eve and visit us! Ralph was a good man with a great sense of humor. Ralph will be very much missed. We are so sorry for your loss, and you are all in our thoughts and prayers
